Description: Exterior view of the clubhouse known as The Castle of the Fishing Company of the State in Schuylkill. Description: Advertisement containing a view of the company's oil storage facilities at Point Breeze on the Schuylkill River, a plan of the grounds by Hexamer, and text describing the facilities. View depicts sailing ships docked at the wharves adjoining the "refined" and "crude" oil warehouses. Horse-drawn carriages travel on River Road toward the wharves. Individuals mill along the banks and on the wharves. The "Garden Farm" is visible in the background. Hexamer plan contains 7 numbered buildings, including the oil warehouses, crude oil wharf, and office in addition to cooper shops, crude oil tanks, and the railroad. Also identifies the surrounding plots of land including, the Garden Farm, Empire Stores for Crude Oil, Farmland of the Atlantic Petroleum Storage Co., and B.J. Crew's Atlantic Petroleum Refinery. Advertising text promotes the experience and care of the "those having charge of the business" and the erection of "large and commodious" warehouses and docks. Title: Northern Liberties & Spring Garden Water Works
Description: Oblique view of the front and north flank of the one-and-a-half story granite engine house at the Spring Garden and Northern Liberties Water Works (later known as the Schuylkill Water Works) at the foot of Thompson Street on the east bank of the Schuylkill River. In the foreground, an empty horse-drawn cart is stopped near a pump, where a man fills a bucket with water. A man stands with his arms crossed in the side door, a couple strolls arm in arm, and three men stand and converse at the foot of the stairs of the engine house entrance. Description: Advertisement for S.F. Jacoby & Co. containing a montage of three titled views showing the sites involved in its marble manufacturing operations. The scenes are separated and surrounded by an ornate border comprised of patriotic imagery on top, including an eagle clutching the American flag and shield near a bust of George Washington and the state seals of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts; filigree, foliage, and tassels decorate the central portion, where putti hold up a banner displaying the title of the central view; and a lion-mouth fountain adorns the bottom portion of the border. Upper view shows slabs of marble piled in railroad cars pulled by a locomotive at J.K. & M. Freedley's "Bay State Marble Works in West Stockbridge, Mass," and includes residences and cattle. The bustling central scene depicts slabs of marble being moved from the boats and piled onto the wharf at the "Marble Depot Chesnut [sic] St. Wharf Schuyl. Philadelphia," ready for finishing in nearby mills or to be sold by S.F. Jacoby & Co. Description: Eight-page foldout advertisement for George Gill Green's "August Flower" and "Boschee's German Syrup" containing advertising text pages and five views of Fairmount Park including the Fairmount Water Works and Resevoir, originally built between 1812 and 1822 after the designs of Philadelphia engineer Frederick Graff. Also shows horse-drawn carriages pulling men and women racing north on East River Drive under the New York Connecting Railway Bridge, built 1866-67 after designs by Joseph A. Wilson for the Pennsylvania Railroad. The Promontory Rock Tunnel, bored in 1871, is visible in the background.
