Title: Birds-eye view of Andersonville Prison from the south-east
Description: Birds-eye view of Andersonville Prison, a Confederate prisoner-of-war-camp in Georgia, with the vast prison area surrounded by stockade fences. In the center are numerous prisoners and their hand-made housing, consisting of various fabrics and mounds of dirt. Guard towers surround the fence and guards, on foot, horseback, and in horse-drawn carts patrol. In the right, men, many of whom use canes or crutches and have amputated legs sit, lie down, or walk in a separate fenced area that has tents. Two cannon emplacements with soldiers are visible in the foreground. Several buildings and a train traveling down the railroad tracks are visible in the background. The prison operated from February 1864 until April 1865.
