Title: Franklin W. Kohler bicycling events 1884
Description: Scrapbook of local newspaper and sports periodical clippings compiled by competitive Philadelphia bicyclist Frank W. Kohler, predominantly about his cycling pursuits and achievements, and involvement with the Pennsylvania Bicycle Club. Clippings describe local and regional bicycle tournaments and meets, including the exhibition at Jumbo Park in South Philadelphia and the second annual meet of the Pennsylvania Division League of American Wheelmen (1884); time records broken by Kohler and his peers, including the "Lancaster Pike" (1886); Pennsylvania Bicycle Club cycling tours, including to Baltimore (1884), Niagara (1885), and upstate New York (1888); and the history of the Pennsylvania Bicycle Club. Also contains various bicycle club event and race programs (some annotated with times), including for the West Philadelphia Athletic Association and Buffalo Bicycle Club; prize ribbons; a sign up sheet for a two week tour to Dingman’s Ferry organized by Kohler in August 1888; a pencil sketch titled “The Way the Victors get There Moral. By 1893, Kohler had relocated to Chicago and operated the Eddy Electric Manufacturing Company with his brother G. A. Kohler.

Description: Postcard depicting exterior view of the house, also known as the Letitia Street House, built for merchant Thomas Chalkley in 1713 to 1715. Shows the two-and-a-half-story house with a gabled roof and dormer; green shuttered windows on the façade; and a sign above the front door that reads, “William Penn.” The front doors and windows are open. In the left, ivy grows up the wall. Four young girls and one boy, some with baskets on their laps, sit on a bench beside the house and look toward the viewer. Numerous trees stand on the property around the house. Image is also pasted with glitter that decorates the grounds, as well as the border of the house, like garland. In the 19th century, the house was misidentified as being built by William Penn in 1682 and given to his daughter Letitia. Title: Philadelphia Wigwam for the Johnson Union Convention held August 14th 1866
Description: Exterior view of the temporary convention hall built opposite Girard College between 21st and 22nd streets on Girard Avenue for the first national political convention after the Civil War. The convention was organized to foment the National Union Party in support of President Johnson and in opposition to the reconstruction policies passed by "radical" Republicans in Congress. Crowds of men and women enter the several front and side entrances as a horse-drawn street car passes by.
