- Manuscript map showing landowner's names, lots, creeks, low water marks, and "road made thru the swamp & cripple in 1719 or 1720" in the area near the Point House in Moyamensing. Lot owners include Jones, Bankson, Lisle and Morris, Hockley, Hill and Morris, and Hamilton and Keith. Also contains lots marked: "15 Acres";"Proprietors till 1796 than Marshall"; "Flats not alluvial to low w[ater] m[ark]"; "Swedes in 1664." Low water marks are dated 1765, 1760, 1753. Creeks depicted include Hay Creek and L. Hollander Creek. Michael Freytag received the patent for the depicted lot from the commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1830. In 1875, the land was at the center of a suit brought against the commonwealth for having granted the patent through a fraudulence act. - Collection consists of approximately one hundred items, primarily advertising ephemera, relating to the Centennial Exhibition, held in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park in 1876 to celebrate America’s one-hundredth anniversary of independence and to showcase the strengths of the country’s industry, manufactures, agriculture, and art. Materials include circulars, price lists, advertising cards, stationery, and pamphlets for goods and services, including washboards, ironing tables, saws, springs, sewing machines, mills, mowers, reapers, horse shoes, and hotel accommodations. Other documents include souvenir view books and guidebooks for visitors, maps, a Centennial Board of Finance letterhead, a Centennial award seal, programs, and admission tickets. Several of the items contain illustrations, such as views of the Centennial buildings, and depictions of products. Some advertisements promote foreign businesses from countries, including Belgium, Russia, Great Britain, Holland, Austria, France, Germany, and Spain., Approximately seventeen of the items include manuscript annotations of dates (e.g. "11.2.76" and "Nov 9/76"), possibly made by Centennial visitors to record dates of attendance at the fair. A concert program for Seibert Hall [11423.F.21] contains a lengthy manuscript annotation on the verso., Various printers include Allen, Lane & Scott; Craig, Finley & Co.; Thomas S. - Panorama Hill, Hestonville, West Philadelphia This property, embracing over 350 acres, adjoins Hestonville in the 24th Ward, and is distant 3 1/2 miles from Market St. Bridge. It extends from the Lancaster Turnpike to the Monument Road, and it is intersected by the old Lancaster Road, thus having the advantage of three excellent roads. It also has constant communication of passenger rail road. The elevation is 250 feet above tide, the highest ground within an equal distance of the center of the city, of which it commands a splendid panoramic view. The gas has been introduced and the property is well supplied with spring water and possesses all the advantages of the more densely populated wards.
