The property, sold to Samuel Mifflin in 1806, was owned by several successive owners, including merchant James C. Fisher from about 1812 until 1836, and antiquarian Ferdinand J. Grant on the east side of Carriage Drive in Fairmount Park is visible in the distance. The cabin served as Grant's headquarters and the supply center for the Union armies during the seige of Richmond. Moved to Philadelphia circa 1870 from City Point, Virginia as a gift to citizens of Philadelphia for their support during the Civil War.
