Title: Lippincott Mansion
Description: Exterior view of the Dundas-Lippincott mansion at the busy northeast corner of Broad and Walnut Streets, Philadelphia. Shows the mansion surrounded by a wall with wrought iron. Steps lead to ionic columns, which hold up the pediment over the front door. Several trees grow on either side of the house. Numerous pedestrians, including an African American boy, as well as a car, carriage, and trolley travel in front of and around the residence. Designed by Thomas U. Walter, the Dundas-Lippincott Mansion was built around 1838 for Philadelphia banker James Dundas on the old grounds of the amusement center Vauxhall Gardens. Nicknamed the "Yellow Mansion," due to its buff color, the residence was known for its impressive garden and as a place for lavish entertainment. Title: [Procession of Poor Richard Club members down Locust Street, Philadelphia]
Description: Procession of the advertising and publishing club established in 1906 in honor of Benjamin Franklin past the Poor Richard Club and the nightclub, "Club Madrid," on the 1300 block of Locust Street. Depicts the members being led by a Franklin impersonator and a man, wearing makeup and a curly, white wig and attired in an embellished long-sleeved shirt with a cap, shorts, and white stockings, on horseback. They are followed by costumed and uncostumed members. All the costumed "young Franklins," except for a few who hold flags and a club banner, carry loaves of bread simulating Franklin's arrival to Philadelphia. Spectators watch from the sidewalk and the street, including an African American chauffeur leaning on a parked car. Description: Series of progress photographs of the construction of the Tower of Light and "Progress on Lagoon" west of Broad Street and near Packer Street. Photographs depict the construction of the tower from its foundation to completion and the early stages of development of the lagoon from muddy marshland. Images show construction workers, including African Americans; construction equipment and supplies; automobiles and horse-drawn wagons; and foot traffic, including spectators. Title: " Pushmobiles lined up for a race, G[erman]t[ow]n
Description: Panoramic view showing several boys, attired in hats, coats, and often goggles, in pushmobiles lined on each side of a residential street in preparation for a race. Boys stand behind the vehicles, while men, including a police officer and likely officials, walk and convene at the other end of the street. Many of the pushmobiles are numbered and some are named, including one with the moniker "Otto." The pushmobiles are possibly participating in the first Thanksgiving Pushmobile Derby that occurred in 1911.
