- Print containing a central view of the female figure of America surrounded by scenes and vignettes that commemorate the Centennial Exhibition of 1876, in West Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. Shows America, wearing a liberty cap and holding a laurel wreath, seated on a throne that is bordered by American flags. Vignette portraits of the presidents and prominent military figures from the American Revolution encircle the image and a bird's eye view of the exhibition grounds, "Centennial Exhibition Buildings, Philadelphia,"and vignettes of Independence Hall, Faneuil Hall, and the Bunker Hill Monument are visible above it. At the bottom of the print, a battle scene represents "The Struggle for Liberty" and a family resting on their porch in front of a farmer in his field, and a factory, represents "Peace and Prosperity". - Series of tradecards advertising the lithographic firm established as Craig, Butt & Finley in 1869 and renamed Craig, Finley & Co. in 1872. Seven of the tradecards depict quaint scenes of children at play and work in addition to one containing a montage of vignette views of buildings at the Centennial Exhibition of 1876. Scenes include a boy presenting flowers to a girl, children witnessing breaking and broken wares, children chasing a rabbit, a shepherd boy with a lamb, and girls performing the wash. All the boys are attired in knickers and most wear hats. Most of the girls are attired in peasant-like dresses. Centennial tradecard shows Machinery Hall, the Main Building, Art Gallery, Agricultural Hall, and Horticultural Hall. Also includes the promotional text: Publishers of this style Centennial Card. - Description
- Fire company certificate containing vignettes depicting fire fighters rushing a steam engine marked with the company motto down a city street past the Odd Fellows Hall, Frankford; a steam engine parked at the company fire station on Church Street; and fire fighters surrounded by spectators battling a fire of the Frogmore Mills cotton factory, Frankford. Fire fighting equipment including a fire hose, a ladder, an axe, a trumpet and other tools are drawn bundled together to form decorative elements on both sides. A small oval portrait of Commodore Stephen Decatur in a laurel wreath frame above intertwined American flags and the company motto "Ever Prompt to a Call" adorns the top. Also contains eagles, the company number "21," and the institution and incorporation dates (1803 and 1842, respectively). Lithograph partially printed over and surrounded by an ornate chromolithgraphed decorative border and pasted letterpress cutouts. Shows pedestrian traffic in front of the church built 1853-1854 under the supervision of the building committee of Rev. Dr. J. F. Berg, George Hawes, D. W. C. Moore, and Charles Collins Jr. Pedestrians include a man carrying a bundle on his shoulder and a boy playing with a hoop. Congregation organized in 1852 from members withdrawn from the First German Reformed Church. Chromolithographed border comprised of a wreath of different flowers and cutouts with gold printed letterpress text describing, and listing prominent figures in, the history of the church., Text cut-outs surrounded by chromolithographed bead-like strands. - View looking east down Spring Garden Street from Broad Street showing the Odd Fellows Hall at the northeast corner of Spring Garden and Broad streets (400 block N. Broad). A horse-drawn carriage is parked and another passes in front of the hall enlarged in 1853 after the designs of Samuel Sloan for the benevolent and charitable organization, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The roof of the building is adorned with statues representing Charity and Hope, tenets of the organization and red drapes are visible in the second floor windows. The busy street also includes a couple with their son walking their dog; a gentleman and woman on horseback; a hurried surrey; an omnibus pulled by a horse-team dressed in regalia traveling in front of the Spring Garden Institute (northwest corner Spring Garden and Broad); and men talking near the fountain completed in 1853 in the center of the block of Spring Garden. Faculty includes William S. Mullen, President; N. R. Moseley, Prof. of Anatomy General, Special and Surgical; Jas. F. X. McCloskey, Prof. of the Institutes and Practice of Medicine; Jos. Longshore, Prof. of Obstetrics and Diseases of Women and Children; C. W. Gleason, Prof. of Physiology and Surgery; M. W. Dickeson, Prof. of Materia Medica and Therapeutics; and A. D. Chaloner, Prof. of Chemistry. Border designed as Gothic-style columns and arches decorated with female figures, including Wisdom and Peace.
