- "Fortieth Illustrated" circular advertisement, probably distributed to retail dealers, for the hat manufacturer established in 1841. Contains captioned images of 66 types of men's and children's hats for the "Spring" season of 1876. Captions detail style, finish, and colors. In tribute to the upcoming Centennial Exhibition, vignettes at top depict Carpenters' Hall, Independence Hall, and a buffalo hunt. Building views inlcude pedestrian traffic. Also contains trademark for the firm with motto "Semper Paratus" (i.e., always prepared). Internal text promotes the quality and styles of hats offered, including fine soft hats, fur and wool hats, harvest hats, mackinaws, and trimmed and untrimmed hats. Text on verso encourages business people to visit Philadelphia prior to the opening of the Exhibition in order to become acquainted with the city and its accommodations, and to purchase spring fashions at the firm., Accompanied by advertising envelope for the firm illustrated with a transfer lithograph of the store at 606 & 608 Market Street. View includes crates being loaded on to a horse-drawn dray parked in front of the store. - Circular advertisement for the hat manufacturer established in 1841. Contains captioned images of 66 types of men's and children's hats for the "Fall" season of 1875. - Collection of billheads for Philadelphia clothing, shoes, and related manufacturers and trades, printed between ca. 1840 and ca. 1890, and containing primarily decorative and ornate lettering and ornamented type. Some also contain illustrations and pictorial details, including cameos and ornaments. Illustrations depict exteriors of storefronts and pictorial details depict frame motifs composed of scrolls and leaves with a beehive at the bottom, ribbons, filigree, and ornamented and geometric patterns and designs. Other ornaments depict a medal awarded to A. Hippman with the profile of Benjamin Franklin (Ladies French shoemaker Julius Heck, successor to Hippman) and a cameo containing the image of a boot (boot and shoemaker Philip Heppe). Exterior views include patrons entering buildings, street and pedestrian traffic, as well as laborers at work. Businesses represented include clothing stores, tailors, manufacturers of umbrellas, shirt and shoemakers, and importers of staple and fancy dress goods., Proprietors and firms represented include H. Karl de Bubna was a Philadelphia music teacher and Augusta de Bubna (1844 - ) was a writer., Small number addressed to C[hristian] Schrack (1790-1854). Schrack was a Philadelphia paint and varnish manufacturer., Some contain "removed to" new address stamped notices., Some have portions clipped away., Various printers and lithographers, including Henry A.
