Around the time this photograph was taken in March of 1859, the homes were occupied by three merchants, three brokers, two “gentlemen,” and an engraver, along with their families and servants., McClees, a prominent Philadelphia photographer and daguerreotypist, produced some of the earliest paper photographic views of Philadelphia between 1853 and 1859.
