Description: Illustrated billheads containing ornate lettering, pictorial and ornamental details, and a vignette exterior view of the sign-covered, five-story storefront of the firm established by Joseph D. Marshall, and Robert T. Marshall circa 1870. Signage reads "Paints, Oils & Glass. Coal Oil. J.D. Marshall & Bro. Drugs and Chemicals." View also shows a horse-drawn wagon and carriage in the street and partial views of adjacent buildings. Description: Billheads containing vignette exterior view of the six-story building adorned in signage of the Philadelphia firm established circa 1868. A pyramid shaped display is visible in the lower floor show window. Also shows heavy street and pedestrian traffic, including a horse-drawn delivery wagon marked "Drugs." One of the prints also contains two "reduced copies of our beautiful large Chromo lithographs Show cards in six colors, handsomely framed in walnut and gilt, given away with the first order of the goods represented." The views show horses, cows, sheep, and pigs gathered in landscape settings near a railroad bridge and farm, and mountains and a lake. Billheads also contain "Terms," including claims policies and the honoring of retails prices, and a list of "Some of Our Other Specialties.", Engravers include Smith Bros., P.2011.46.10 completed in manuscript to C.N. Title: Henry Adolph, manufacturer of furniture wholesale and retail, warerooms no. 36 North Second St., one door above the Christ Church Philadelphia
Description: Advertisement showing the exterior of the furniture warerooms near Christ Church (22-34 N. 2nd St.). Clusters of people admire the furniture displayed in the windows of the storefront as patrons enter the building. The store is heavily adorned with signage and an American flag. Men, women, and children, including a man pushing a handcart, walk on the bustling sidewalk. A woman with a girl, and a delivery boy, cross the street near the "No. 21 Exchange & Richmond" streetcar, a "H. Adolph" delivery wagon, and another laborer pushing a handcart. Description: Tradecard containing a view of the three-and-one-half story beer hall and restaurant adorned with signage reading "G. Hartung Hotel." A patron enters the establishment as a man, probably the proprietor, stands near the entrance. A laborer emerges from the cellar holding a keg. Description: Glass negative showing a small wagon standing in a grassy lawn dotted with trees at the Morris family home Avocado. A wooden fence runs to the left of the path traversing through the garden. Elliston Perot Morris bought property in Sea Girt, N.J. in 1875, where he built the summer home Avocado after designs by Quaker architect Hibberd Yarnall. Morris left Avocado, named after a Perot family estate in Bermuda, to his daughter Elizabeth Canby Morris in his will. It was sold in 1947 after her death. Description: Advertisement showing the foundry complex in South Philadelphia. Includes the "Black Lead Crucible Manufactory," "Brass & Bell Foundry," an office-like building, and a workshop with a stack spewing smoke. A gentleman enters the office as a laborer pushes a dray on the sidewalk toward an alley out of which a drayman leads his horse-drawn vehicle transporting a large bell. In the street, a crowded "Gray's Ferry" double-decker omnibus travels alongside a dog barking at the horses. At the rear of the street car, a man attempts to jump aboard. Also shows a couple standing at an opposite street corner, near the open doorway of possibly a grocery store, and surrounding buildings. Description: Advertisement showing the busy factory complex on Second Street road above the Reading Railroad, i.e., 135 North Third Street above Race Street. Signage reading "Franklin-ville, Oil Cloth Works" adorns the roof of the main factory building around which several workers labor. Laborers stretch cloth on long flat racks and on the side of the main building in which other men move a roll of carpet into a hatch. In the courtyard, laborers load materials into a wagon, and transport materials by hand-cart and horse-drawn dray. Other factory workers pull a long sheet of cloth along the side of a smaller factory building. At the rear of that workshop, men work in and approach a shed. Crates and large packages rest near the pulling racks and are piled in front of the main building. Countryside frames the scene. The firm of Potter & Carmichael moved their warehouse to 135 North Third Street from 568 North Third Street (above Poplar Street) circa 1848.
