Title: Chemical laboratory of Crew, Rogers & Crew Philadelphia Penna
Description: Advertisement with heavy street activity showing the manufactory at 1601 North Sixth Street for the firm founded by Benjamin J. and J. Lewis Crew and Stephen R. Rogers in 1860. Shop laborers load barrels onto a horse-drawn cart parked in front of the laboratory and unstack and shift crates and barrels that line the sidewalks. A company horse-drawn wagon passes in the street. Other traffic includes horse-drawn drays, a "Frankford & Southwark" street car, and elegantly-attired women and men crossing from and to street corners. Also shows a company wagon entering a bay and a dray entering a storage yard at the factory. Surrounding buildings, including probably the warehouse at the lumber yard of Jacob and George A. Description: Views looking east, one from Third Street, at the rear elevation of the fire-ravaged Jayne building with ice hanging from its exterior. One of the images includes a partial view of the cast iron front of 117 South Third Street in the foreground. Dr. David Jayne, a chemist and Philadelphia manufacturer of patent medicines, moved into an eight story building at 84-86 Chestnut Street (i.e., 242-244 Chestnut Street), between 2nd and 3rd Streets in 1850, after it was completed after designs by William J. Johnston and Thomas Ustick Walter. His business occupied the building until his death in 1866. He served as the chief photographer for the U.S. Army Medical Museum in 1865 and replaced Timothy O'Sullivan on George M. Wheeler's survey of the territories west of the 100th meridian in 1872. He returned to Philadelphia, went into business with his future son-in-law William Rau in 1875, and was active in the photography community until his death in 1910.

Description: Advertisement showing a bird's eye view of the chemical works of Harrison Brothers near Fitler and Harrison Streets in Frankford, showing from left to right, the buildings containing "Pyro Acid Works," "Sulphuric Acid Works," "Sugar Lead Works," "White Lead Works," "Alum Works," "Copperas Works," and the company office. The bustling scene includes laborers pushing wheel barrows, putting coal in a furnace, and hoisting barrels using a block and tackle pulley system. Piles of lumber, barrels, and vats cover the ground, and smoke rises from the chimneys of the buildings within the enclosed compound. A man walks along the periphery of the fence in the foreground, between two gates. A loaded wagon enters the left gate, as a dray exits through the right. Description: Advertisement showing the five-story storefront, adorned with signage and an ornamental iron work balcony, of the druggist on the 100 block of North Third Street. A patron enters one of the entrances to the establishment as in front of him a crate is hoisted. To the left, the window and second entry of the building are open and casks, jugs, bottles, and boxes line a wall of shelves and the floor. Additional inventory are visible near the upper floor windows. In front of the store, a clerk, with a receipt in his hand, watches two draymen load their vehicle in the street. One drayman controls the horse as the other loads a crate onto the dray. A line of crates and barrels, some marked with barely legible print, line the sidewalk near the laborer. Also shows partial views of neighboring buildings in front of which a couple and gentleman stroll. Description: Advertisement showing the bustling and sign covered four-story corner storefront of the druggist at 801 North Third Street. A large banner above the main entrances to the building reads "J. A figure of an eagle adorns the doorways in which a man enters and through which a clerk assisting a lady at the counter is visible. Flasks, decanters and medical type instruments fill the three display windows. A woman peers at one of them. Barrels and crates, a few marked, line the building and sidewalk. Boxes are piled near most of the upper floor windows and a clerk works at a lower one near a side door in which a lady enters across from a tree in full bloom. In the street, a partially loaded horse-drawn dray rests as a laborer retrieves goods for it from the store cellar. Fullerton Hazard (successors of Alexander Fullerton, 174 Market Street), and wholesale and retail hatter, Elijah Bowen (176 Market Street). Both four-story, three-bay buildings are covered in signage. Signs advertise "Alexander Fullerton drugs medicine & paints" in two locations on the facade of 174 Market Street, indicating a recent shift in ownership of the drug store. A man stands in each of the two doors to each store. In Moyer & Hazard's shop, a man stands in the left doorway and points and directs a laborer who moves goods on a dolly. Description: Advertisement showing a bird’s eye view of the factory complex of several buildings and courtyards originally built 1855 between 18th, Fitzwater, 17th, and Catherine streets. Complex includes the L-shaped building at the corner of Fitzwater and Seventeeth streets that displays the sign “Rosengarten & Sons. Established 1822” near the entrance. The building contained the office, packing rooms, and manufacturing rooms for the firm. Several individuals walk on the sidewalk and horse-drawn carts and wagons travel near the street corner. Description: Advertisement showing the four-story storefront of Wetherwill & Brother (John Price and Dr. William Wetherill) heavily covered in signage on Front Street above Market Street. Signs advertise the "Drug, Paint" & Glass Store," the proprietors - "Druggist & Color Men," and depict the store emblem of an American eagle with a shield atop a barrel, surrounded by apothecary packages, and bordered by the text "Encourage your own Manufactory" and "65 Old Stand." Building also adorned with a railing on the roof. Stacks of barrels, two atop boxes marked "8-10 Glass" and "12-16 Glass," flank the two open entryways (covered in signs) in which the back of a clerk carrying a large box and two male patrons are visible. Decanters fill the display windows, and boxes, barrels, and glassware are stacked near the upper floor windows. A clerk descends into the cellar across from a drayman, in the street, steadying his horse-drawn vehicle loaded with labeled packages. Several more labeled packages line the sidewalk. Materials include opium, linseed oil, shellac, gum opal, sperm oil, myrrh, "dry. w. lead", salad oil, "ol. vit.," "aq. fortis," "bn. indigo," and "ref. camph." Whi...", John Price and William Wetherill, were the grandson's of Samuel Wetherill, the founder of the earliest white lead manufactory in America.
