Description: Glass negative showing Professor Isaac Sharpless' three children, Helen, Amy Cope, and Fredric Sharpless, and Professor Allen Clapp Thomas' son Eddie Thomas (Haverford College class of 1897), posed in a doorway at Founder's Hall. Thomas stands in the back and while the Sharpless children sit on the step. Isaac Sharpless was a Quaker mathematician and astronomer at Haverford College (founded 1833). He served as Dean of Haverford College from 1884 to 1887, and then president from 1887 to 1917. Allen Thomas graduated from Haverford College in 1865 and returned as an instructor in 1878. After getting his masters in history in 1882, he continued as a professor of rhetoric and history until 1909. He also worked extensively with the library until 1912. Founders Hall, built in 1833, was the first building of the Haverford School, later College.
