Description: Lovely bird's eye view looking east toward the city from Belmont Mansion, the former estate of Judge Richard Peters. In the foreground, visitors to the property partake of the grounds that are landscaped with trees and small gardens. Elegantly-attired men, women, and children stroll; appreciate the vista from benches and chairs; and enjoy refreshments at tables. Other patrons depart in horse-drawn carriages down a path that winds past the Belmont Water Works and Columbia Railroad Bridge. A train approaches the bridge. In the right background, the proposed Centennial Exhibition buildings, and grounds congested with visitors, are visible in West Fairmount Park. The Main Hall and Memorial Hall predominate. It extends from the Lancaster Turnpike to the Monument Road, and it is intersected by the old Lancaster Road, thus having the advantage of three excellent roads. Title: Henry Adolph, manufacturer of furniture wholesale and retail, warerooms no. 36 North Second St., one door above the Christ Church Philadelphia
Description: Advertisement showing the exterior of the furniture warerooms near Christ Church (22-34 N. 2nd St.). Clusters of people admire the furniture displayed in the windows of the storefront as patrons enter the building. The store is heavily adorned with signage and an American flag. Men, women, and children, including a man pushing a handcart, walk on the bustling sidewalk. A woman with a girl, and a delivery boy, cross the street near the "No. 21 Exchange & Richmond" streetcar, a "H. Adolph" delivery wagon, and another laborer pushing a handcart. Description: Exterior view of the Tabernacle Methodist Episcopal Church,, Exterior, oblique view looking southwest at the two-story Roman Corinthian church and rotunda of the Tabernacle Methodist Episcopal Church, erected in 1853 after the designs of Stephen Decatur Button. Corinthian pilasters and narrow, arched windows adorn the front facade, which is surmounted by a dome and lantern made of wood and tin. An ornate iron railing extends south from the church to the partially visible adjacent three-story row house at 1528 North Eleventh Street. Philadelphia In this locality it was deemed important by the church, that our borders should be enlarged, and in order to accomplish this object, a large respectable church must be erected, Rev. Andrew Manship was on the 9th of August 1853 by the proper authorities of the M.E. Church appointed pastor, he and his people thinking it inexpedient to wait until the regular church could be ready for occupancy, resolved to erect this building, which is 100 ft. by near 40, and accommodates about twelve hundred persons. the building committee [A. Manship, M. Morris, John Miller, and A.F. Old] aided by the people, energetically proceeded with the work, and in ten days, the house was ready and on the 16th of October was dedicated to the worship of Almighty God. Since which time meetings have been held without much intermission and to the present date Feb. 10 1854, at least 300 persons have professed the religion of our Lord Jesus Christ. Description: View showing the rectangular front facade, red-brick Roman Catholic church built 1763 and enlarged 1810-1811 (Charles Johnson, master carpenter) at 242-250 S. 4th Street. Crucifixes, arched windows and entrances, and a tablet reading "Founded 1763 Enlarged 1810" adorn the building protected by a brick wall with iron work fencing and gates. Well-dressed men and women, including two women with parasols and a mother and child, walk outside the church property. Description: Exterior view of the Protestant Episcopal church built 1758-1761 after the designs of Robert Smith at 300-340 Pine Street. The cupola replaced in 1842 by a tower and steeple adorns the building that is surrounded by a brick wall and ironwork fencing that exposes the church cemetery. Pedestrians, prominently women, and possibly parishioners, walk on the sidewalk. A woman street vendor with her table of wares sits near the wall at the corner.
