Title: Old houses on Camac St., Phila
Description: View of old dwellings, some occupied by the Poor Richard Club (239-241 South Camac Street) and William H. Rau's Studio, on Camac Street near Latimer. Depicts the narrow street lined with two story brick row houses looking north. Named after wealthy Irish landowner Turner Camac, who inherited properties on the street in 1804. Around 1880, the respectability of Camac Street declined when brothels and taverns moved in, bringing with them crime and debauchery. In the early 20th century, the Poor Richard Club moved to Camac Street, in an effort to revitalize the area. Title: Fish house of the "State in Schuylkill"
Description: Glass negative showing the fish house of the State in Schuylkill surrounded by trees with a balcony off the second level. The building's windows have a distinctive shape: the center window is a half circle with tracery, flanked by two windows with pointed arches and tracery. The State in Schuylkill is the oldest continuously operating social club and the first angling club in the United States. Description: Depicts people sitting and standing underneath of the wooden viewing stands erected along Broad Street for the Peace Jubilee, a celebration of the end of the Spanish American War held in 1898. Included a military parade that passed through a Court of Honor and Triumphal Arch, along with other festivities that lasted several days in October. The word "Victory" is painted on the sides of a wooden tower that rises from the section of the stands in front of the Mercantile Club, built on North Broad Street in 1892 after designs by Baker & Dallett. Title: St. George's Hall. N.W. [sic] 13th & Arch Sts
Description: Exterior view of the north front and east flank of St. George's Hall built in 1835 by Thomas Walter Ustick as a residence for railroad executive Matthew Newkirk. Converted to the headquarters of the Society of the Sons of St. George in 1876, whose mission was to assist Englishmen in distress in America. The statue of St. George slaying the dragon on top of the front portico is partially visible. Includes numerous pedestrians crossing the street, the rear of a delivery wagon in the foreground and in the background, the tower of City Hall.
