- Contains exterior views of Strawbridge & Clothier store on Market Street between 7th and 8th streets. Contains views of the row of commercial buildings occupied by the firm that included an addition designed by Addison Hutton in 1897 located at the northwest corner of 8th Street. Also includes views of the later store designed by Simon & Simon built at the same location in 1932. The business continually expanded until by the time of this early 20th-century postcard the store took up almost the entire block. Known as the Grand Depot, the store attracted thousands of customers daily. By the time of this 1896 photograph, the store had electric lights, telephones, elevators, a large restaurant, and “many waiting, reading and toilet rooms” for the comfort of the customers.
