Description: Advertisement showing J.O. Thornley Coffee Roaster & Spice Factory at 1215 South Third Street in Southwark. Depicts the factory buildings, including a “coffee roasting” facility, in the left of the image. Horse-drawn factory wagons, one marked “J.O. Thornley Coffee Roaster & Spice Factory Southwark,” drawn by horse are parked in, and arrive and depart from around the factory, including the alley between the complex and a residence (Mrs. Smith). Building contains the steeple added in 1867 after the designs of Edwin F. Durang. Description: Advertisement issued during the Centennial Exhibition 1876 for the upholstery manufacturers and dealers containing illustrations of 5 different styles of patriotic bunting and an exterior view of a residence adorned with bunting and commemorative window shades. Illustrations depict bunting designs composed of shields, flags (including America, France, Great Britain), swaths of fabric, panels, and fringes. One design includes shield with portrait of George Washington. Section of advertisement also includes a design for lettering reading "1776 Union 1876" complemented by the figure of an eagle. View of residence shows a three-story mansard-roofed building with a portico entrance. The name and address of Cunningham & Hill are printed over and within the illustrations. His brothers Benjamin, Edward, and John were also artists, and for a short time in the 1840s, Richard shared a Philadelphia studio with Edward and John and taught art. He also supported himself by preparing technical illustrations for some of Philadelphia's scientific organizations. Like his brothers, Benjamin and Edward, Richard served as a topographical draftsman on expeditions to the western United States. He was killed by Native Americans in Utah.

Title: Panorama Hill, Hestonville, West Philadelphia This property, embracing over 350 acres, adjoins Hestonville in the 24th Ward, and is distant 3 1/2 miles from Market St. Bridge. It extends from the Lancaster Turnpike to the Monument Road, and it is intersected by the old Lancaster Road, thus having the advantage of three excellent roads. It also has constant communication of passenger rail road. The elevation is 250 feet above tide, the highest ground within an equal distance of the center of the city, of which it commands a splendid panoramic view.
