Description: Advertisement showing the factory complex built 1825-1876 between Ninth, Parrish, Brown, and Darien Streets. Buildings house a showroom, storerooms, laboratories, boiler rooms, acid houses, drying rooms, and warehouses. Horse-drawn carts and wagons pick up and make deliveries and travel past the manufactory. Description: View showing the laboratory complex of processing plants and storage sheds established in 1848 on Ridge Avenue near Schuylkill Falls (i.e., East Falls). Within the complex, laborers haul goods by horse among the several buildings, smoke stacks, and trees. Men and women converse near the entrance to the complex in the foreground, as a horse-drawn cart exits the compound. In the background, a locomotive travels past the complex (right) and a laborer works with a team of horses that pull several railroad carts loaded with goods (left) on the series of tracks surrounding the complex. View also shows adjacent lots of pasture land. In the lower corners are two vignettes depicting exterior views of the tartaric and citric acid department and the laboratory for fine chemicals at Ninth and Parrish Streets. Description: Illustration on recto of specimen sheet/price list depicting the factory for the printing establishment at 1525 Orthodox Street (corner of Orthodox and Franklin (later Griscom) Streets). View also includes street and pedestrian traffic, including horse-drawn drays and wagons. A square border with cornice ornaments surrounds the view. Description: Advertisement print showing the factory complex on the 400 block of North Fifth Street. Complex includes a three-story building marked "Wm. Description: Advertisement showing the two-story factory adorned with signage on the 800 block of North Sixth Street near Spring Garden. A boy pulls a carriage out of one of the two entries to the building (Sixth Street) as patrons inspect a different model of coach being pushed out by a factory worker at the other. A family walks between the coaches and other carriages are visible inside. Around the corner (Brown Street), on the sidewalk, two gentlemen converse and a couple peers into a factory window. Near the rear of the factory, a laborer transports a sack on his back near a strolling couple past a hackney displayed on a one-story addition. In the street, a driver tries to reign in his speeding carriage occupied by a couple that is being chased by a barking dog as a boy works on the wheel of a factory carriage nearby. Description: Advertisement showing in the distance a compound of large mill buildings belonging to Joseph Ripka's textile manufacturing business, situated between the east bank of the Schuylkill River and the Manayunk Canal. Description: Advertisement showing the busy four-story factory for the bakery at 129 North Front Street, between Chestnut and Walnut Streets. A gentleman, possibly the proprietor Thomas Wattson, stands in one of the open doorways to the bakery as laborers work around him. Near the doorways, workers load kegs onto a horse-drawn "T. Wattson & Sons Biscuit Bakery" wagon and dray. Other men, hoist kegs to upper receiving windows from a group of several lined in front of the factory. Description: Advertisement showing the industrial complex for the "Phoenix Coach Works" on the 400 block of Buttonwood Street. Complex includes a four-story main building, adorned with street signs, connected to additions and the "General Coach Furnishing Store." Several smokestacks and a tower decorated with the model of a carriage adorn the roof. Signage reading "Phoenix Coach Works" adorns one of the additions, which contains a rooftop crossover to the main building in addition to an entry, adorned with the figures of lions, to a courtyard. A man drives a horse-drawn carriage through the entryway, as above, carriages are displayed on the crossover. Four unhitched carriages, including an ornately decorated one, line the street in front of the main building as a single-seat carriage and a fancy coach with driver and passenger travel in the street. Description: Advertisement showing the busy factory complex on Second Street road above the Reading Railroad, i.e., 135 North Third Street above Race Street. Signage reading "Franklin-ville, Oil Cloth Works" adorns the roof of the main factory building around which several workers labor. Laborers stretch cloth on long flat racks and on the side of the main building in which other men move a roll of carpet into a hatch. In the courtyard, laborers load materials into a wagon, and transport materials by hand-cart and horse-drawn dray. Other factory workers pull a long sheet of cloth along the side of a smaller factory building. At the rear of that workshop, men work in and approach a shed. Crates and large packages rest near the pulling racks and are piled in front of the main building. Countryside frames the scene. Description: Advertisement containing an exterior view of the factory (adorned in signage) and fenced marble yard located at Green Street above 7th Street. In the yard, a couple reviews one of several cemetery monuments displayed in front of the factory in which marble workers are visible. The men toil near the open entry and windows. Description: Advertisement containing views of the "Factory at 13th & Parrish Sts." and the factory and showroom, i.e., "Old Stand No. 9, Sth. Sixth St." Factory view shows the bustling "George S. Watson Coach Factory" complex with workshops, courtyard, and sheds surrounded by a wood fence on the 800 block of North 13th Street. Within the courtyard, wheelwrights work on a wheel propped up next to a blazing fire as another worker walks past with a watering can. Other workers retrieve planks of wood from piles loaded in a shed and attend to a carriage. Carriage parts, a horse in a single stall, and piles of wood surround the workers. Within the workshops, carriages and coaches and metalworkers at a forge are visible. A wagon maker also works on a few vehicles placed on a balcony attached to the upper floor of the main workshop. Outside of the complex, a worker rolls a wheel toward the entrance to the workshop with the forge as another leads two horses toward the entrance of the courtyard. A man carrying a stick with rags over his shoulder, near an ambling dog, also walks on the sidewalk. Description: Advertisement showing the busy "Pier 45" and factory of the firm at North Delaware Avenue. On the pier, laborers drive loaded and empty horse-drawn carts, unload sand from a barge, operate hoists from within sheds, and work on a raised platform between warehouses marked "Sand." Boatmen and workers operate equipment and perform manual labor on barges and boats, most with visible names, surrounding the pier. Names include Walter C. of Burlington, Sherman, Wilson, Willie Paxson of Philadelphia, Minerva, Samuel Miller, Estelle (built by Pusey & Jones, delivered 1884 to Paxson), and Saml. C. Bougher. In the background, the factory buildings, connected by an overpass, are visible neighbored by the B&O and P.R.R. freight depots, a pier covered in barrels and bales of wood, and other surrounding buildings. Description: Advertisement showing a view of the marble yard fronted by a triple arch adorned with plaques, the adjoining three-story office building, and rear factory of the establishment at Green Street above 7th Street. From the sidewalk, decorated as black and white tile, a lady, holding a parasol, and a gentleman admire several ornate obelisks and monuments within the fenced, arched yard. Several of the pieces are adorned with patriotic details, urns, and statuary. Plaques on the arches include the name of the business in addition to text reading "Every Description of Monumental Works Executed" and "Plain & Carved Mantels of Every Description." Under the third arch and entrance to the yard, a clerk and patron talk near slabs of marble propped against the wall of the office building. Behind the men, a laborer hauls a large monument by a dolly into the factory yard.
