The walkway splits and encircles the Water Nymph and Bittern fountain designed by William Rush in 1809 for the Centre Square Pump House. Also shows a partial view of the monument dedicated to waterworks engineer Frederick Graff commissioned by the city and installed June 1, 1848 in the garden near the engine house. Monument contains a bust of Graff sculpted by Hugh Cannon, Gothic trim, an inscribed dedication, and is surrounded by an ironwork fence. - Glass negative showing the Bockius House at 5434 Germantown Avenue with a wooden fence seen from across the wide lawn of the Deshler-Morris House at 5442 Germantown Avenue. Other houses are visible in the background. A line of bare trees separates the lawn from the other houses. The Bockius House was built for Albert Ashmead as a wedding gift. It was later occupied by Charles R. Bockius, and eventually Elliston Perot Morris, who remodeled it in 1903. David Deshler built the original four-room summer cottage on the 5442 Germantown lot in 1752, adding the three-story front addition in 1772. The house was sold to Col. Isaac Franks in 1792 after Deshler’s death. President George Washington rented the home for the duration of the yellow fever epidemic of 1793 and the summer of 1794. Elliston and John Perot purchased the house in 1804, selling it to Elliston’s son-in-law Samuel B. Morris after his death in 1834. The house stayed in the possession of the Morris family for over a century, when Elliston P. Morris donated the house to the National Parks Service in 1948. - Group of young women, including an African American woman, from the National League for Women's Service with plow, wheelbarrow, watering can, and other tools working in a vegetable garden. Shows eighteen women spread out over the garden tending to different plants. In the center, the African American woman stands holding a pitcher. A voluntary organization in support of the homefront during World War I, the League used the Little Wakefield estate as a demonstration center. They held classes in home economics and canning and preserving, grew fruits and vegetables, and cultivated bees. Little Wakefield was built by Thomas Rodman Fisher in 1829 on property adjacent to his father's estate, Wakefield, located at 1601 Lindley Avenue.
