Description: Series of illustrated trade cards for Strawbridge & Clothier's dry goods store at Eighth and Market Streets in Philadelphia. Illustrations depict men riding in a horse-drawn carriage past a sign reading "The largest retail stock of dry goods. Strawbridge & Clothier, Eighth & Market Sts., Philada."; an old man seated with his cane watching a woman harvest wheat; a chef wearing an apron and chef's hat pulling on the neck of a duck; and a porter rushing off of a train to help a man carrying Strawbridge & Clothier packages. In 1861, Justus Strawbridge opened a dry goods store at the northwest corner of Market and Eighth streets. Title: The beginning and the end of life (hold the picture 1 foot away for life and 20 feet for death.) Presented by William Deering & Co. Chicago, Ill. Grain & grass machinery
Description: Illustrated trade card and metamorphic picture depicting two girls playing with their pet dog and toys, strategically placed so that when viewed from afar, the scene forms the shadows of a human skull. William Deering became the sole owner of a reaper company in 1879 in Plano, Illinois and subsequently moved the business to Chicago, Illinois in 1880. The business was incorporated as William Deering & Company in 1883., Advertising text printed on verso promotes various harvesting and mowing machines manufactured by William Deering & Co., including the Junior Deering, the Standard Deering, the Deering Mower, Deering Giant Mower, the Warrior Mower, and the Deering Light Reaper. Title: Views of the Wilson family on their estate
Description: Views show the Wilson family recreating on their estate. Depicts the family reading, picnicking, sitting and lounging in their yard, walking and working in their gardens, harvesting corn, playing with family dogs, posing near a small footbridge, and eating on their porch. Several members of the family are seated on their horses in a few of the images. One image includes an African American man, attired in a white chef’s hat and apron, overseeing a meal under a tent. Also shows exterior views of the family's two-and-a-half story residence with porches on the first two levels, a stone barn, and outbuildings. Description: Series of checks, bank notes, billheads, and receipts, containing allegorical and patriotic vignettes and ornate pictorial details. Vignettes depict allegorical female figures, including Liberty, Hope, Justice, and Bounty; animals, including the American eagle, a dog protecting a safe, and bucks; and patriotic figures, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ulysses Grant. Other vignettes depict a view of a traveling locomotive; the seal of Pennsylvania; and views of harvested produce and grains. Businesses represented include A.
