Description: Fashion advertisement containing two panelled scenes of 15 elegantly attired men, women, and children in a parlor and an outdoor setting. Scenes surrounded by a border designed as tree branches and tools of the design trade, including rulers, scissors and protractors. Upper panel shows the parlor scene. At the center of the panel, two men stand showing their backs as they peer at the countryside from the curtained window. They are flanked by two groups conversing in the parlor. On the left side, a woman attired in a bonnet, long pleated shirtwaist, and white gloves stands in the middle of two men attired in long jackets, vests, and neck ties. The men on the right side wear the same style, while the woman wears a dress with a low cut neckline, gloves, and a small hat. Many of the depicted men have mustaches and or sideburns. Furniture in the parlor includes a high back chair, wing chair and an ottoman. Lower panel shows a beach scene and a hunting scene. Dividing the two are a man and a woman mounted on horses. The woman sits sidesaddle in a long skirt, shirtwaist, and hat. Her male companion, and the men gathered in front of their horses, are attired in vests, jackets, cravats and top hats. A casually-dressed, barefoot man, wearing loose trousers and an unbuttoned white shirt, observes the scene from a distance. On the opposite side of the horses, two men gather their prey from a recent hunting expedition. One man stands with a rifle in his right hand and points at the dead hare and fowl at his feet as another man, more casually dressed, puts the kill in a sack. Description: Advertisement showing the exterior of the storefront containing a display window and a large model rifle above the entrance. An American flag projects from the muzzle of the model that is attached to the building by ropes. Patrons holding rifles and attired in hunting gear depart from the store as other patrons sit and stand near the open cellar doors of the establishment. A dog flanks the hunters and a boy walks ahead with two other dogs on leashes. Rifles, hunting bags, and guns adorn the display window. Street activity includes an African American laborer pushing a handcart of rifles and a boy carrying a wrapped rifle over his shoulder. Also shows neighboring buildings. Title: Wakefield – The “Hunt,"
Description: Montage of five scenes from a "Hound and Hare Club of Germantown" meet at Wakefield Meadow, part of the estate of Thomas and Sarah Fisher near Germantown. Large central scene shows elegantly attired men, women, and children, a few astride horses, milling on the grounds near the old residence, pond and creek. Surrounding scenes show horsemen galloping on the grounds, over fences, and in front of distant crowds of on-lookers standing in front of the dwelling. Dwelling built circa 1795. The meet involved horsemen acting as "hounds" and "hares" through horns and pieces of paper. The riders were tracked by their fellow mounted clubmen. Description: Fashion advertisement containing two panelled scenes of 17 elegantly attired men, women, and children in a parlor setting and an outdoor hunting scene. Upper panel shows a parlor furnished with floral carpet, a fireplace, an ornate chandelier, window blinds, a portrait painting, and high-backed chairs. At the center of the scene a young boy with a hoop entertains two seated women attired in dresses and bonnets. Six men dressed in solid or plaid pants, jackets, vests, cravats, and top hats flank the women and child in the center and converse with one another. Lower panel shows six figures, some standing, some leaning against tree stumps, and a man and a woman mounted on horses in the center of the scene. The male figures, including one boy, are attired in solid or plaid jackets, plaid pants, vests, and top hats. One man holds a rifle and faces the boy (right) who holds what appears to be a dead bird behind his back, as another dead bird rests on the ground at his feet. The woman, sitting sidesaddle, wears a dress, jacket, gloves and a plumed hat. Many of the depicted men, in both scenes, have mustaches and or sideburns. Title: Tamany Fish House, on the Pea Shore, R. Delaware
Description: View showing visitors enjoying the public grounds of the Tamany Pea Shore Fishing Company, a social and sporting club founded by Philadelphia artisans in 1803 on the New Jersey Shore above Camden. People stroll on the veranda of the club house remodeled in 1832 and are visible in the upper-floor windows. The building, reflected in the water, is adorned with a flag and a weather-vane shaped as a fish. The kitchen building stands to the right of the main building. Between the two buildings, two men stand in front of a water pump. Couples stroll and an older man fishes on a wooden pier, to which a rowboat is tied, that stretches from the shore. In the right, a rowboat carrying seven passengers (5 men, 2 women) approaches a boy and a man preparing to fish next to their grounded rowboat on the riverbank. Other guests stroll and greet each other on the shore that is lined with trees. Title: The castle of the state in Schuylkill
Description: Exterior view of the clubhouse known as The Castle of the Fishing Company of the State in Schuylkill. Shows men spread out across the grounds, some sitting at a table outside, others walking in the woods near the clubhouse and stables. Two men stand with a dog at the edge of the river, looking toward a man in a rowboat in the foreground. Association formed in 1732 for hunting and fishing, originally on "Eaglesfield" the old estate of William Warner on the western bank of the Schuylkill River. To the left, two men stand and converse with two women. The seated lady holds a fan and wears an evening dress, with a low, straight neckline. Her hair is styled in ringlets, and a flower rests behind her ear. The other woman adorns outerwear styled with a high-necked, tight-waisted dress, shawl and plumed bonnet. To the right, two men stand with three boys, who all wear flat caps. The boy on the left is dressed in an Eton suit, while the other two younger boys wear longer tunic suits.
