Description: Trade catalog containing an ornate front and back cover and two specimen pages of script promoting Thomas Hunter, former partner in Hunter & Duval (active 1869-1874). Central vignette shows the figure of Liberty, one breast exposed, holding a shield and a liberty staff beside a fache and eagle. Title: Craig, Finley & Co. Steam-power lithographers and printers, 1020 Arch Street
Description: Series of tradecards advertising the lithographic firm established as Craig, Butt & Finley in 1869 and renamed Craig, Finley & Co. in 1872. Seven of the tradecards depict quaint scenes of children at play and work in addition to one containing a montage of vignette views of buildings at the Centennial Exhibition of 1876. Scenes include a boy presenting flowers to a girl, children witnessing breaking and broken wares, children chasing a rabbit, a shepherd boy with a lamb, and girls performing the wash. All the boys are attired in knickers and most wear hats. Most of the girls are attired in peasant-like dresses. Title: Jacob Haehnlen's lithographic & steam powered letter press printing rooms
Description: Proof print of advertisement containing an ornate border surrounding a central view of the exterior of the six-story brownstone and print shop owned by lithographer Haehnlen at 420 Library Street. Signage advertising the "lithographic establishment" adorns the doorway, front, and side of "Goldsmith’s Hall." Building also adorned with large display windows and an eagle above the entranceway. View includes street and pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians walk on the sidewalk, stand in doorways, and enter the shop. In the street, horse-drawn wagons and drays, including one hauling crates marked "J.H.," pass in the street near a man pushing a hand-cart loaded with crates. Shop included salesrooms and offices, a machine shop, a drying room, lithographic presses, and card, handbill, and pamphlet printing presses. Border composed of cards containing ornate letters spelling Haehnlen's name and examples of his genres of work, including portraiture, industrial views, and machine imagery. Haehnlen established his own studio at Goldsmith’s Hall in 1866 and operated his business from all but the first floor. He sold his shop to the firm Lehman & Bolton in 1870. Description: Advertisement containing an ornamental border, vignette examples of Kollner's work, and several lines of advertising text for the collaboration between Camp and Kollner at the Phonenix Block circa 1849-1851. Vignettes, marked with variant Kollner imprints, include General Washington, accompanied by two of his officers, and dismounted from a horse that is managed by a black handler (Servant William Lee?); a line drawing of the Phoenix Block building; the back of an old man, possibly Franklin, dressed in colonial attire, and seated at his secretary; and a view showing a grand building, probably a Capitol, along a river on which vessels sail. Border also includes vignettes. Vignettes depict a military scene with an officer on horseback accompanied by another soldier on the shore of an ocean on which a ship sails; and a trade scene between a gentleman and a Native American reviewing a stack of goods of commerce at a pier. Description: Illustration printed on upper half of stationery paper pasted onto front flyleaf of magazine volume. Includes hand-written form letter under the illustration signed by William M. Huddy and P. S. Duval outlining prices of "coloured" versus "plain" plates. Illustration depicts the four-story corner lithographic establishment of P. S. Duval and the headquarters for the United States Military Magazine at the northwest corner of Bank Alley and Dock Street (i.e., 227 Dock Street). A signboard for a house painter adorns the adjacent property facing Dock Street and "Birch's Auctions" occupies the property at the west end of Bank Alley facing Third Street.
