Title: 19th Ward Avoid the draft At a meeting of the Bounty Fund Committee of the 19th Ward, the following resolution was adopted: Resolved, that the citizens of the ward pledge themselves not to contribute, directly or indirectly, to any fund to procure exemption for any citizen, in employment and health, who may be drafted and who has not contributed to the ward bounty fund; and they will also guaranty exemption to any man who may be drafted, under the present call, who has contributed twenty dollars to the fund. Title: The last call to the citizens of the Fifteenth Ward A meeting will be held in the Baptist Church, Eighteenth and Spring Garden Sts., on Thursday evening, 11th inst., at 8 o'clock. It will then be decided whether further efforts are to be made to avoid the draft in the ward. We believe that $15,000 will furnish enough volunteers to fill the quota. Description: Album containing eight pencil sketched, titled views of prominent sites at Fairmount Park. Includes Belmont Mansion from the East; Mount Pleasant; Tom Moore's Cottage above Columbia Bridge; Belmont Mansion from the West; Gen. Grant's Headquarters; the Elevator, (i.e. observatory) at Lemon Hill; Penna. R.R. Bridge (i.e., Connecting Railway Bridge); and Rockland Landing from Columbia Bridge., Drawing of Mount Pleasant depicts an exterior view of the Mount Pleasant Mansion built 1761-1765 for Captain John Macpherson after the designs of Thomas Nevil in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pa. View shows the front entrance with a large tree in the left. Macpherson, a privateer during the Seven Years’ War, purchased the estate with profits from these operations. Free white and Black laborers, indentured servants, and at least four enslaved people of African descent, whose names are unknown, worked on the plantation. In 1779, General Benedict Arnold purchased Mount Pleasant for his wife Peggy Shippen, but they never occupied the house. In 1792, General Jonathan Williams purchased the mansion. The City of Philadelphia purchased the property from the Williams family in 1869. On behalf of the city, the Philadelphia Museum of Art restored the house in 1926., Red leather binding stamped S. Description: Drawing depicting the Joseph Gilpin House, occupied by the Marquis de Lafayette during the Battle of Brandywine in 1777. Title: $525 bounty Attention citizens of the 14th Ward It is no time to talk of your patriotism and loyalty, prove them by joining Company "G" of the Sixth Union League Regiment, now forming in the 14th Ward, commanded by one of the best officers in the service, Colonel H.G. Sickles [sic] (late Colonel of the 3d Pa. Reserves.) All the government bounties, together with city and ward bounty, will be paid to each recruit as soon as mustered in. This regiment is now forming under the auspices of the Union League of Philadelphia, and is one of the two regiments authorized to be raised in Philadelphia for twelve months' service.
