Title: To Mrs. Amelia Bloomer The new costume polka composed for the piano by Mathias Keller
Description: Sheet music cover containing a portrait of a woman attired in a bloomer costume, standing in front of the storefront of music publishers Lee & Walker on the 600 block of Chestnut Street. The lady holds a blue parasol, and wears a corseted pink-colored coat and pale yellow skirt over her white bloomers. A model harp adorns the door of the music store in which a female patron wearing a bloomer costume enters. Also shows the neighboring J. A. Robinson bookstore (162, i.e., 632 Chestnut). Pedestrians, including another woman in bloomers, walk on the sidewalk, past the store, and look in its window. Title: Henry Miller's concert garden. Nos. 720 & 722 Vine Str. Philadelphia
Description: Sheet music cover containing an interior view of the crowded concert hall and theater operated by Henry Miller beginning circa 1854. Several men and women sit at, and converse and walk among the many tables of the seating area as a number of waiters serve the patrons. A music ensemble plays on a raised platform with guard rails in the left of the image and several people line a small stage in the center rear of the hall where a small performance appears to be happening. To the right of the performance, the stairwell to the upper balcony, lined with people, is visible. Greenery and vinery decorate the hall that includes a glass ceiling and windows, some open, across and adjacent to the balcony. The ornamental border includes a vignette, cherubs playing instruments (harp, cymbals, trumpet, flute), vinery, and floral details. Description: Sheet music cover showing a busy street scene with the "Assembly Buildings" music hall rebuilt 1852 after the designs of John McArthur, Jr. at 1000-1002 Chestnut Street. Signage for tenant F.A. Hoyt & Brother, boys clothing, adorns the frieze of the building used for concerts, exhibitions, and balls. The hall also displays signage for the "Assembly Dinner Saloon," the eating saloon in the basement. Description: Group portrait in an outdoor setting, probably the Junger Maennerchor annual picnic and summer night's festival at Schützen Park, depicting hundreds of members (several with their faces likely based after photographs) of the German-American choral society founded in 1852. The massive crowd of white men sit, stand, drink beer, and smoke cigars and pipes. In the left foreground, a number of men hold sheets of music, with one, seated, and in the gesture of conducting across from another seated men leaning on a bound volume resting on a stack of bound volumes of likely music. Also shows a man in the right foreground pouring beer from a keg, and in the center background, two men on horseback, a man holding the society flag, and a man holding a trophy and gesturing toward another man. Title: Memorial chart centennial jubilee Liberty, equality, fraternity to all nations
Description: Print commemorating the Centennial Exhibition of 1876 containing allegorical vignettes bordered by portraits of the eighteen presidents and views of Philadelphia landmarks and Centennial buildings. Allegorical vignettes show the female figures of Justice, Liberty, and Prosperity seated next to each other on a pedestal in front of a mountain valley, and a large assembly of men of international origin attired in native costumes. Depicted Philadelphia landmarks include Independence Hall, Masonic Temple, Girard College, Carpenters Hall, the Academy of Fine Arts, and the Academy of Music. Centennial building exteriors include the Main Building, Machinery Hall, and Memorial Hall.
