Perot mansion. North side of Market Street near Eighth St (old no. 297, now no. 731) At this date ( June 15th 1859) it is the only exclusively private dwelling house on Market Street, either side of the way, between the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers! It was built by, and occupied by John Perot, Esq. in the year 1804, who continued to reside there up to the time of his decease on the .It is at present owned and occupied by his son Edward Perot

Also shows adjacent businesses, including Edwin Harot's restaurant (727 Market); a patent medicine dealer selling "Thomsonian Medicines" (729 Market); and Henry McGrath's bookstore and Benjamin Sheneman's plane manufactory (733 Market). Crates line the street and the rear of a wagon is visible., Title and photographer's inscription on mount., Date inscribed on photograph., Originally part of a series of eleven scrapbooks compiled by Philadelphia antiquarian Charles A. Poulson in the late 1850s entitled "Illustrations of Philadelphia" volume 3, page 153. The scrapbooks contained approximately 120 photographs by Philadelphia painter and pioneer photographer Richards of 18th-century public, commercial, and residential buildings in the city of Philadelphia commissioned by Poulson to document the vanishing architectural landscape, Retrospective conversion record: original entry, edited.
