Title: Bicycle glide
Description: Sheet music cover containing a genre scene, circa the Centennial Exhibition of 1876, showing bicyclists on East River Drive, i.e. Kelly Drive in East Fairmount Park. In the foreground, a man in checkered coat, striped bicycle pants, and a "Deerstalker" cap rides a "High Wheeler" in front of an arch of the New York Connecting Railway Bridge (built 1866-1867) spanning the Schuylkill River. Behind him, two other bicyclists follow and pass a startled horse pulling a buggy being approached by a park guard from across the road. A locomotive travels over the bridge. In the background, the Promontory Rock Tunnel (bored in 1871), the Girard Avenue Bridge (built 1872-1874), and the Centennial Exhibition observation tower, "Iron Tower," on George's Hill in West Fairmount Park are visible. Scullers row near a steamboat under the distantly-seen bridge on which a locomotive crosses. Also shows horse-drawn carriages traveling on the drive and on the Girard Avenue Bridge. Title: Grand masonic march Chesnut [sic] St. Philadelphia
Description: Sheet music cover containing a street scene with the Gothic-style hall built 1853-1855 after the designs of Sloan & Stewart at 713-721 Chestnut Street. Also shows slight views of adjacent businesses, including Washington House hotel (709-711) and heavy pedestrian and street traffic. On the sidewalk, men and women stroll and convene in conversation. In the street, a horse-drawn omnibus filled with passengers and a carriage with passengers travel past two men on horseback and couples crossing the street near a dog. Title: Col. Hyatt's military polka
Description: Sheet music cover containing a view of cadets drilling in front of the Pennsylvania Military Academy, relocated from Wilmington, Delaware in 1862. One troop stands at attention as another group mans a row of cannons. A large flag pole rises from behind the multi-storied academy building that is adorned with a cupola and portico. Also shows a white picket fence surrounding the grounds. The academy, founded as the Bullock School for Boys in 1821, relocated from Wilmington, De. to Chester, Pa. in 1868 and operated as the Pennsylvania Military College 1892-1966. The institution was reincorporated as Widener University in 1979., Dedication: Respectfully dedicated to the cadets of the Penna. Title: International Electrical Exhibition march
Description: Sheet music cover containing an exterior view, during the evening, of the temporary main building of the exhibition held under the auspices of the Franklin Institute (September 2 to October 11, 1884) at the 3200 block of Lancaster Avenue. Also shows the adjacent old Pennsylvania Railroad Station used as a display annex. A covered overpass connects the buildings. Light shines through the several windows of the main building adorned with Gothic towers. Visitors walk the grounds of both buildings and horse-drawn buggies and an omnibus travel in the street. Also includes an inset depicting a round electric light bulb.
