Friends enter the meeting house and gather in front of the wrought iron fence lining the grounds. The meeting house, the second one for the Hicksites (separation in 1827), was built in response to the women's meeting's request for a larger and safer meeting space than the first Hicksite meetinghouse at Fifth and Cherry streets. The Race Street side of the building was used by the monthly meeting and the Cherry Street side by the Yearly Meeting. Race Street was the site of the Hicksite Philadelphia Yearly Meeting between 1857 and 1955. In the right of the image, a crossing guard with a signal flag stands at the corner of Ninth and Paris streets. Train cars travel the tracks of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad past a separately-standing warehouse of the factory in the foreground. Opposite the factory and across from the railroad tracks, laborers load a horse-drawn cart with crates and barrels that are lined up in several rows. Advertisement calendar for 1865 containing patriotic and seasonal vignettes, scenes, and allegorical figures framing a calendar. Upper corners contain an autumnal and winter scene. Autumnal scene shows a farmer at his plow with farmhands reaping wheat in the background and a yard of farm animals in the foreground. Winter scene shows individuals skating on a pond as a sled passes by, near a couple talking to a soldier under the gaze of two dogs. Dwellings and a train also comprise the landscape of the scenes. Lower corners contain the the breast-bearing female allegorical figures of Spring and Summer. Spring holds a sprig of flowers and Summer holds a basket of fruit. Patriotic imagery includes a battle scene, and the figure of Columbia surrounded by flags and soldiers, including an injured private, and another passing a laurel wreath to a fellow compatriot. Other vignettes show an artist working at a drawing table, and a lithographic printer rolling ink on a stone. Trade cards depicting specimens for cigar box labels and trimmings of George S. Harris & Sons. Shows No. 2151 "City cousin," No. 2126 "Mirth and beauty," and No. 2155 "First mate.""City cousin," depicts a young woman reclining against a bale of hay in a field. Above this scene are toiletries, perfumes, and a book of "Happy hour poems" wrapped in a ribbon. "Mirth and beauty" depicts a waist-length portrait of a young girl wearing a large plumed hat. "First mate" shows a sailor in his blue uniform at sea, gripping his straw hat in his right hand, and telescope in his left., George S. Harris opened his lithography business ca. 1847 at 119 North Fourth Street. In 1872, George Harris & Sons moved into a seven-story, "iron front" building erected for the company at 718-724 Arch Street, where they operated the largest lithographic firm in the city, with about 600 employees producing lithographic trade cards, labels for cans and cigar boxes, circulars, calendars and stamped envelopes for patrons worldwide., Not in Wainwright., Advertising text stamped on verso: Geo. Book illustration showing the courthouse (built 1707 by carpenter Samuel Powell) and meeting house known as Market Street Meeting House (erected 1695, rebuilt 1775-1776) on North Second Street above Market Street. Also shows pedestrian traffic. Courthouse was utilized as the town hall, seat of the Legislature, market house, and the Pennsylvania statehouse until Independence Hall was opened in 1748. Building demolished in 1837., Plate opposite page 166 in John F. Watson's Historic tales of olden time : concerning the early settlement and progress of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania ; for the use of families and schools ; illustrated with plates (Philadelphia : E. View showing the stone edifice of St. James Church, the church's first building, constructed in 1851 after the designs of John T. Mahoney at the southeast corner of Thirty-eighth and Chestnut Streets and two adjacent structures, possibly the church rectory and orphans' home. Shows pedestrians promenading on the sidewalks, including two women walking arm-in-arm along Thirty-eighth Street in the foreground. Also depicts a horse-drawn Chestnut-Walnut Street car travelling west along Chestnut Street. Reverend Francis P. O'Neill served as pastor of the church from 1875 until his death in 1882. Structure demolished in the summer of 1881 for the erection of the Gothic Revival church designed by Edwin F.
