Collection of stationery, primarily illustrated and typographical letterheads, billheads, and form letters, of pharmaceutical firms and related businesses and institutions in the United States (predominantly New York City, New York, Philadelphia, and Pennsylvania) issued between circa 1840 and 1935. Subjects include invoices and receipts, shipping arrangements and fees, product orders, payments and payment disputes. Firms, businesses, and institutions well represented include James S. Folio volume of panoramic views of businesses on the 200-900 blocks of Chestnut Street and corresponding pages of advertisements. Also contains a preface, which details that inclusion in the directory required subscription to or purchase of the volume; the intention to "issue the Panoramic View annually"; and the publisher's endeavor to correct all lettering errors "upon the publication of the second edition." Volume also includes interspersed full-, half- and, one-third-page advertisements for business subscribers tenanting, as well as not located on Chestnut Street. Publisher issued only the 1851 directory., Predominantly depicted and promoted businesses include carpet dealers; confectioneries; daguerreotypists; druggists and patent medicine dealers; engravers, printers, and publishers; hotels; jewelers; millineries and clothiers; musical instrument dealers; and tailors. Plates also show the State House, Congress Hall, City Hall, Barnum's Museum, and residences. Full-, half- and one-third page advertisements advertise a variety of businesses, including patent medicines, artificial limbs, essence of coffee, marble manufacturers, and printers and publishers. Advertisement showing the three-and-one-half story building with several windows that is adorned with signage and advertising text for the druggists on the 200 block of Callowhill Street. Signs and text advertise "Drugs, Chemicals, Paints, Oil Glass, and Dye Stuff"; "White-Lead & Window-Glass at Manufacturers Lowest Prices"; and "Alum, Madder, Logwood, Camwood, Indigo, Copperas, Fustic and Turpentine." Patrons, visible through the open doorways, stand at counters within the storefront; jars, and decanters line the display windows; and crates and barrels, some marked, line the sidewalk. At the side of the store, a clerk checks a list as a drayman unloads his horse-drawn vehicle. Also shows the doors open to the cellar of the store that also contains a large-scale model of an apothecary's mortar and pestle and a fire insurance marker. A pyramid shaped display is visible in the lower floor show window. Also shows heavy street and pedestrian traffic, including a horse-drawn delivery wagon marked "Drugs." One of the prints also contains two "reduced copies of our beautiful large Chromo lithographs Show cards in six colors, handsomely framed in walnut and gilt, given away with the first order of the goods represented." The views show horses, cows, sheep, and pigs gathered in landscape settings near a railroad bridge and farm, and mountains and a lake. Advertisement showing the bustling and sign covered four-story corner storefront of the druggist at 801 North Third Street. A large banner above the main entrances to the building reads "J. A figure of an eagle adorns the doorways in which a man enters and through which a clerk assisting a lady at the counter is visible. Flasks, decanters and medical type instruments fill the three display windows. A woman peers at one of them. Barrels and crates, a few marked, line the building and sidewalk. Testimonial text below the image reads "I am an invalid troubled with indigestion for over 40 years (am now 67). Advertisement showing the four-story storefront covered with lettering advertising products at the druggist on the 200 block of North Third Street. Products include "Wetherill & Co.'s Warranted Pure White Lead, Indigo, Madder, Logwood, Turpentine, Linseed Oil, &c, &c. Agency for Golsh's Patent Matches & American Brimstone." A male patron exits one of three open entryways to the store. Another patron is visible inside. Canisters and decanters fill the central display window and crates and barrels line the sidewalk in front of the building. At the side of the storefront, near the open cellar, a drayman stands by his horse that pulls a dray loaded with crates. A weather vane decorated with a fish adorns the roof of the building. Billhead of the Philadelphia druggist containing an exterior view of the four-story storefront, heavily adorned in signage, at the southeast corner of Market and Fifteenth Streets. Pedestrians walk on the sidewalk and a horse-drawn omnibus passes in the street. Print also contains two frame-shaped pictorial details. One surrounds a list of products, including white lead, window glass, sal soda, calcined plaster, and "pure wines & liquors for medicinal purposes" and the other, the text "E. C. Jones, Vermin Exterminator Has No Equal." Edward C. Jones & Co. was originally established as a firm by Amos Yarnell for whom Jones served as an apprentice 1860-1864. Jones became Yarnell's partner in the later 1860s and succeeded to the head of the firm in 1877. Jones retired by the early 1890s and W.H. Earl & Co. assumed the operations of the business until 1895 when taken over by A. Eugene De Reeves., Completed in manuscript to Joseph P.
