- City directory advertisement containing gilt shading and a patriotic vignette for the studio established by Eugene Ketterlinus in 1842. Vignette depicts a female figure, Columbia, attired in a breast plate, crown, and cape leaning over a globe and standing on a block of stone. She holds a map which reads "North America," and an American flag, over the globe. In the background, locomotives travel over the landscape that also includes a railroad bridge spanning a river. Ketterlinus was one of the earliest Philadelphia lithographers to produce stock cards, and embossed and colored mercantile labels. The temporary bridge replaced the second permanent bridge (completed in 1845 and razed by the Robeson Mill fire of August 1862). Construction of the new permanent bridge (also known as the Wissahickon Creek Viaduct or High Stone Bridge) was begun in 1874 by the new owners, the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. Due to budgetary constraints, construction was halted and later completed from 1881-1882. Includes Belmont Mansion from the East; Mount Pleasant; Tom Moore's Cottage above Columbia Bridge; Belmont Mansion from the West; Gen. Grant's Headquarters; the Elevator, (i.e. observatory) at Lemon Hill; Penna. R.R. Bridge (i.e., Connecting Railway Bridge); and Rockland Landing from Columbia Bridge., Drawing of Mount Pleasant depicts an exterior view of the Mount Pleasant Mansion built 1761-1765 for Captain John Macpherson after the designs of Thomas Nevil in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pa. View shows the front entrance with a large tree in the left. Macpherson, a privateer during the Seven Years’ War, purchased the estate with profits from these operations. Free white and Black laborers, indentured servants, and at least four enslaved people of African descent, whose names are unknown, worked on the plantation. In 1779, General Benedict Arnold purchased Mount Pleasant for his wife Peggy Shippen, but they never occupied the house. In 1792, General Jonathan Williams purchased the mansion. - Billheads containing vignette exterior view of the six-story building adorned in signage of the Philadelphia firm established circa 1868. A pyramid shaped display is visible in the lower floor show window. Also shows heavy street and pedestrian traffic, including a horse-drawn delivery wagon marked "Drugs." One of the prints also contains two "reduced copies of our beautiful large Chromo lithographs Show cards in six colors, handsomely framed in walnut and gilt, given away with the first order of the goods represented." The views show horses, cows, sheep, and pigs gathered in landscape settings near a railroad bridge and farm, and mountains and a lake. Billheads also contain "Terms," including claims policies and the honoring of retails prices, and a list of "Some of Our Other Specialties.", Engravers include Smith Bros., P.2011.46.10 completed in manuscript to C.N. - Series of illustrated trade cards promoting George Gill Green's "August Flower" and "Boschee's German Syrup". Four trade cards depict views of Fairmount Park, including one eight-page foldout advertisement containing advertising text pages. Illustrations include the Fairmount Water Works and Resevoir, originally built between 1812 and 1822 after the designs of Philadelphia engineer Frederick Graff. Also shows horse-drawn carriages pulling men and women racing north on East River Drive under the New York Connecting Railway Bridge, built 1866-67 after designs by Joseph A. Wilson for the Pennsylvania Railroad. The Promontory Rock Tunnel, bored in 1871, is visible in the background. Other images include people leisurely rowing on a creek under the bridge to Lansdown Island; park visitors standing on a pathway that overlooks the Schuylkill River from the Fairmount Water Works; and men and women strolling, sitting, and traveling in horse-drawn carriages along Wissahickon Drive. Trolley tracks run down the cobblestone street lined with stores including grocers and a butcher. Customers, including an African American man, peruse one of the grocery store's display of canned peaches. In front of "Greisinger Co. Meats," 907 Poplar Street, an African American man stands in the street near a cart. Other storefronts with awnings are seen in the distance behind the overpass. - Watercolor depicting the Robeson House, also known as Shoomac Park, built ca. 1759 at Ridge Ave. and Wissahickon Drive, Philadelphia, PA. Shows the two-and-a-half story house with a gabled roof and chimneys. A white fence lines the road in front of the property. Pedestrians and horse-drawn carts, carriages, and covered wagons travel along the road. A train crosses the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad bridge in the background. Andrew Robeson purchased Shoomac Park in 1690 and operated a flour mill on the land. Rudiman Robeson likely built the house. Peter and Jonathan Robeson bought the park and mill in 1789. The Fairmount Park Commission purchased Shoomac Park in 1872 and demolished the house in 1961. - Eight-page foldout advertisement for George Gill Green's "August Flower" and "Boschee's German Syrup" containing advertising text pages and five views of Fairmount Park including the Fairmount Water Works and Resevoir, originally built between 1812 and 1822 after the designs of Philadelphia engineer Frederick Graff. Also shows horse-drawn carriages pulling men and women racing north on East River Drive under the New York Connecting Railway Bridge, built 1866-67 after designs by Joseph A. Wilson for the Pennsylvania Railroad. The Promontory Rock Tunnel, bored in 1871, is visible in the background. Other images include people leisurely rowing on a creek under the bridge to Lansdown Island; park visitors standing on a pathway that overlooks the Schuylkill River from the Fairmount Water Works; and men and women strolling, sitting, and traveling in horse-drawn carriages along Wissahickon Drive. Paragraphs of advertising text promote George Gill Green's "August Flower" as a "natural cathartic" that "corrects the acidity of the stomach," and "it is established fact in every town and village on this continent, that [Boschee's] German Syrup is the only remedy that has given satisfaction in severe cases of Lung Disease." In 1854, rail passage through the Alleghenies via the "Horse Shoe Curve" was achieved and spurred the establishment and growth of the several towns depicted along the route.
