Sketch depicting a bird’s eye view probably of the Lehigh Canal in Mauch Chunk, Pa. Depicts two boats, each with one man, being pulled with ropes by mules along the canal that runs through a valley. The boats also hold material that is probably coal. View also shows trees growing on the hillside bordering the canal, and in the left background, rail cars moving on the tracks towards wooden buildings along the waterway. Mauch Chunk was founded in 1818 and changed its name to Jim Thorpe in 1955.
