Fountain Green, built around 1781, was the estate near the Schuylkill River (East Fairmount Park) originally settled by John Mifflin around 1679. It became a tavern and picnic site for Engel and Wolf Brewery around 1849. The mansion was torn down in 1871. - Part of a series of views showing the ravines, waterfalls, rock caverns and formations at Watkins Glen, a popular New York tourist site at the southern end of Seneca Lake along the Northern Central Railway. The railroad, consolidiated and named the Northern Central Railway in 1855, was purchased by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1863 and provided service from Baltimore to central New York. Watkins Glen, a gorge formed from glaciers, served as a privately operated tourist attraction from circa 1864 -1906 when the site was converted into a state park., Views depict: the Entrance Gorge; Entrance Cascade; Entrance Amphitheatre; the waterfalls and ravine of Glen Alpha; the waterfalls, ravine, and creek near Glen Cathedral; the waterfalls at Minnehaha; Mammoth Gorge; Rainbow Falls; an erosion-sculpted pool at Frowning Cliff; Shadow Gorge; the Artists's Dream Gorge; the Giant's Gorge; and the chalet-style hotel, the Swiss Cottage. Many of the views include the wooden stairways and bridges used to traverse the gorge. Images depict a nude man standing near the creek, probably after bathing; men camping near the creek in a canyon; the photographer knealing down and setting up his shot and two men standing and sitting on large rocks near the mouth of the creek. He served as the chief photographer for the U.S. Army Medical Museum in 1865 and replaced Timothy O'Sullivan on George M. Wheeler's survey of the territories west of the 100th meridian in 1872.

Images depict rock formations, small islands, and waterfalls in various bodies of water, including Cupica Bay, Limon River and Limon Bay; a mango tree near Pinogana and a cocoa grove near Turbo; the steam gunboat U.S.S. Nipsic in the Colombia Bay; the village of Santa Maria del Real from the water; and two group portraits of locals, including a group standing outside of two huts in Chipigana, and a view of a family in their home in Cartagena. Views from T.O. Selfridge's 1870-1871 naval expedition of the Isthmus of Darien.
