Pedestrians walk on the sidewalk and a horse-drawn omnibus passes in the street. Print also contains two frame-shaped pictorial details. One surrounds a list of products, including white lead, window glass, sal soda, calcined plaster, and "pure wines & liquors for medicinal purposes" and the other, the text "E. C. Jones, Vermin Exterminator Has No Equal." Edward C. Jones & Co. was originally established as a firm by Amos Yarnell for whom Jones served as an apprentice 1860-1864. Jones became Yarnell's partner in the later 1860s and succeeded to the head of the firm in 1877. Jones retired by the early 1890s and W.H. Illustrations depict three variant exterior views of the firm's storefront on College Street in the 1870s and 1880s. Earlier views also show signage adorning the side of the building and street traffic, including a man pulling a handcart, and horse-drawn carriages and wagons. Later view captioned "125 to 133 College St., Burlington, Vt." shows the two buildings of the firm in front of which pedestrians walk and several horse-drawn wagon and carriages travel in the street. Businesses and trades include the tobacco, transportation, and rags and paper industry; manufacturers of carriages and wagons, saddlery and harnesses, musical instruments, textiles, and pins; dealers in lumber, furniture, willow ware, clothing, medicines, seeds, spices, and groceries; stationers, printers, and publishers; and a dentist and violin teacher. Also contains rewards of merit; advertising calendars; mid 19th-century miniature illustrated seals containing admonitions; an 1872 American Wood Paper Company pass; an advertising flier for the New Stevens Spring Tooth Harrow plow; tobacco silks containing portraits of prominent Native American chiefs; a reprint of the 1841 "A Plan of the Borough of Harrisburg" designed by John Probst; a wrapper for J. Billheads containing vignette exterior view of the six-story building adorned in signage of the Philadelphia firm established circa 1868. A pyramid shaped display is visible in the lower floor show window. Also shows heavy street and pedestrian traffic, including a horse-drawn delivery wagon marked "Drugs." One of the prints also contains two "reduced copies of our beautiful large Chromo lithographs Show cards in six colors, handsomely framed in walnut and gilt, given away with the first order of the goods represented." The views show horses, cows, sheep, and pigs gathered in landscape settings near a railroad bridge and farm, and mountains and a lake. Billheads also contain "Terms," including claims policies and the honoring of retails prices, and a list of "Some of Our Other Specialties.", Engravers include Smith Bros., P.2011.46.10 completed in manuscript to C.N. Advertisement showing the ornately decorated storefront of William H. Horstmann & Sons clothing and military supply store. Patriotic bunting consisting of the names of artists J.H. Otten, carver and J. Gibson, pinxt, and a shield sumounted by an eagle, flags, swords and spears surround a sign that reads, "E Pluribus Unum, Horstmann," above the first level. Drums, military helmets, flags, and swords flank this central display. Laurel wreaths hang above the fasces that form columns on each side of the shop's two doorways and two bay windows. Tassels are visible in the left bay window, while various types of military hemlets are displayed in rows in the right window. Shields and crossed arrows adorn the transom lights above the windows and doors. Wm. H. Collection of business correspondence dated between September 25, 1861 and February 11, 1885, including billheads, letterhead, a form letter, and a prices current (February 2, 1874) containing ornate typography and vignette illustrations. Billheads and price current contain variant views of the exterior of the firm's storefront. Majority also show laborers loading and unloading horse-drawn carts in front of the building and the storefront adorned with a flag on the roof reading "Importer & Jobber." Items billed include opium, gum arabic, Pears glycerine soap, Warner's Safe Cure, Ayer's Pectoral, and chrome yellow oil masury. Letterhead illustration shows a medieval apothecary in his laboratory. Collection of billheads, dated between 1845 and 1879, containing decorative and ornate lettering, ornamented type, vignette illustrations, and pictorial details. Illustrations depict exteriors of storefronts (some adorned in signage) and an allegorical scene showing Hermes seated among crates, barrels, and bundles, near a brick oven in front of a docked ship at which a horse-drawn dray stands. Some of the exterior views include patrons entering buildings, street and pedestrian traffic, as well as laborers at work. Pictorial details depict frames and filigree. Firms represented include Dr. S. Dickinson & Son (Erie, Pa.); Sisson, Butler & Co. (Hartford, Conn.); Smith & Atkinson (Baltimore); Theo. Ricksecker (N.Y.); Stretch, Bennet & Co. (Philadelphia); Underhill & Kittredge (Concord, N.H.); W. J. Whitehouse (Fort Edward, N.Y.). Billed patrons include Reed House Drug Store; C. S. Clark; Danl. Contains trade cards, business cards, illustrated envelopes, and small-format advertising fliers, calendars, circulars, and cards. Firms and businesses represented include Boston Chemical Company; C.I. Hood & Co.; H.H. Warner & Co.; Maltine Manufacturing Co.; The Newton Horse Remedy Co.; Smith, Kline & French; and Voigt Milling Co. Products advertised include Eskay's albumenized food; cough and kidney cures; balsams; liver pills; heaves and distemper cure; smelling salts; electro-silicon and crudoform liniment; and an obstetric calendar. Illustrations depict various subjects, including storefronts and factories, children, a horse-drawn sulky, a policeman, portraiture, genre and comic scenes, patent medicines, and patriotic and allegorical figures.
