Advertisement containing a view of the Fell & Brother's factory near Wilmington, Delaware and vignettes of eight varieties of spice plants including, cinnamon, pepper, cloves, mustard, nutmeg, ginger, allspice and cocoa. Other pictorial elements depict a female figure, holding a plant, flanked by American flags and a shield bordering the factory view, as well as scroll and floral embellishments. The types of spices and other products manufactured by the company are listed along the right and left borders. Plant vignettes identified and described in "Guide" on verso. Advertisement showing the three-story, three bay building with swan neck pediments flanking the sign "Loud & Brothers Piano Forte Manufacturers" at 150 Chestnut Street (ie. north side of the 600 block of Chestnut Street) across from the Philadelphia Arcade. Pianos are on display in their wide, decorative shop window and laurel wreaths adorn the transom windows above the two doorways to the shop. The piano manufactory, the largest of its kind in the country at the time, was purportedly behind the store. Advertisement showing the ornately decorated storefront of William H. Horstmann & Sons clothing and military supply store. Patriotic bunting consisting of the names of artists J.H. Otten, carver and J. Gibson, pinxt, and a shield sumounted by an eagle, flags, swords and spears surround a sign that reads, "E Pluribus Unum, Horstmann," above the first level. Drums, military helmets, flags, and swords flank this central display. Laurel wreaths hang above the fasces that form columns on each side of the shop's two doorways and two bay windows. Tassels are visible in the left bay window, while various types of military hemlets are displayed in rows in the right window. Shields and crossed arrows adorn the transom lights above the windows and doors. Wm. H. Exterior view showing the Gothic-style hall built 1853-1855 after the designs of Sloan & Stewart at 713-721 Chestnut Street. Also shows adjacent businesses, including Washington House hotel, and those tenanting the lower level of the hall. On the sidewalk, pedestrians (men, women, and children) greet one another, converse, stroll, and admire storefront displays. Displays include textiles, books, framed prints, and men's clothing. In the street, a man and woman ride on horseback in the path of a crossing couple. Image surrounded by border designed as an archway comprised of gothic elements. Pictorial elements include gargoyles, masonic iconography, and the figure of a crusader. Also contains the names of the 8 members of the building committee printed below the image.
