Description: Trade card for the Philadelphia stove manufacturer showing an African American house cook showing off the households's new "Iron King" stove to a baker delivering pies. The woman in kerchief, shawl, checkered dress and apron points to the stove and states "No more of your pies. The Missus has one of dem Iron King Stove -Shure Baker" to the baker in a baker's hat, smock, apron, and holding a square basket of pies. A kettle, frying pan, pot, and dutch oven rest on the burners of the stove that is marked "Chas. Noble & Co., Philada." Scene also shows a partial view of the baker's delivery wagon (advertising pastry and bread) outside of the open kitchen door. Description: Illustrated trade cards depicting before and after scenarios entitled "Before they had the "Sun Dial" gas stove" and "After they had purchased the "Sun Dial" gas stove". In the "before" scene, a disheleved female domestic worker, surrounded by debris, drops cinders and sets the stove on fire as a concerned and hesitant family enters the room. In the "after" scene, with the aid of a Sun Dial stove, the pleasant and well-groomed maid has already prepared breakfast and tidied the dining area as the happy family enters the room for breakfast. Description: Photographic advertisement depicting the storefront of Perkins & McFarland Standard Heaters, Ranges, and Stoves at 211 N. 6th Street, Philadelphia. Heaters, stoves, and equipment parts line the sidewalk in front of the store. An African American man ascends from the cellar entryway. Stove parts and pipes jut out from open windows. Description: Advertisement showing the four-story storefront adorned with signage on the 100 block of North Sixth Street. Signage reads "Radiator Stoves Perpetual Ovens Backs & Jambs Vault & Hearth Grates. Metalic Roofing in Tin & Copper." A patron enters one of the two open entryways into the storefront that is lined with a wall of shelves holding merchandise. Clerks and employees are visible at the cellar entrance, second entry way across from the stairs to the second floor, and in the rear of the business. Pipes and stoves are displayed at the entryways. Two other workers toil at the second floor windows. Title: Abbott & Lawrence. Liberty Stove Works, Brown Street above Fourth St. Philada James J. Abbott. Archilus Lawrence
Description: Advertisement showing the stove works founded in 1851 on the 400 block of Brown Street in Northern Liberties. Works include a four-story building containing the "office" and adorned with a cupola, a large work yard, and a rear "Foundry." At the multi-story building, a laborer loads stoves that are lined on the sidewalk into a horse-drawn wagon under the eye of a man at the doorway. On the roof, two other men stand in the cupola that is adorned with a statue of Liberty. In the adjacent work yard, laborers shovel and pick at mounds of coal and bricks, and load and transport hand- and horse-drawn carts on the grounds and up a ramp leading to an opening in the foundry. Near the workers, a group of men, one leaning on a shovel convenes and two boys chase each other over a mound. On the sidewalk, men, women, and children pedestrians stroll past a street lamp, watch the workers, and converse near a dog sniffing a fire hydrant. In the street, drivers guide horse-drawn carts, a drayman travels, and a pedestrian crosses in the path of an "Abbott & Lawrence Liberty stove Works" wagon and speeding carriage occupied by a family of three. Street activity also includes a man on horse back, two dogs in a greeting stance, and two gentlemen engaged in conversation. Description: Advertisement showing the stove manufactory covered in signage in German and English on the 400 block of North Second Street. Patrons enter the storefront and a clerk, possibly the proprietor, greets a patron at a second entrance. Stoves line the walls, and are displayed at the entrances and in the shop windows. The appliances, of variant styles, including a cooking stove with a tea kettle, also line the sidewalk. Laborers work at the upper floor windows. Title: [Joseph Feinour & Son stove store and Joseph Feinour's tin, copper brass & iron ware house 213-215 South Front Street, Philadelphia]
Description: Advertisement for the twin storefronts for the "Joseph Feinour & Son Tin, Copper Brass & Iron Ware Manufactory Stove Store" and "Tin, Copper Brass & Iron Ware-House" at 213-215, i.e., 345-347 South Front Street. A patron and clerk enter through the back entrance of the stove store that is crowded with stoves visible through the three open entryways. Potts and kettles lay on the displayed appliances as well as line rows of shelves adorning the wall opposite a stairwell. In front of the store, various types and patterns of stoves, including a "Bath Heater" and one on which a laborer brushes polish, crowd an extended platform and the sidewalk and continue over into in front of the adjoining warehouse. At the warehouse entrance, a clerk assists a woman patron who inspects cauldrons displayed on the end of the platform. Through the open entrance, a clerk is visible helping another woman patron at the counter. Metal cookware including pots, pans, and kettles line the shelves behind them and the display windows of the building. Several of the displayed stoves have their feed doors open. Description: Advertisement containing two views of the stove works and hollow-ware foundries owned and operated by Charles W. Warnick and Frederick Leibrandt. The upper scene depicts the stove works at Gunners Run (ie. Aramingo Canal) and Franklin Avenue (ie. Girard Avenue). Viewed from the opposite bank of Gunner's Run, the scene shows laborers working with horse-drawn carts and drays on the bank of the canal, in front of a complex of industrial buildings labeled "Foundry" (left) and "Warnick & Leibrandt's Stove Works" (right).
