Title: Elm tree at Haverford [College], between Founder's & Barclay Halls. A sapling from the Penn Treaty Elm
Description: Glass negative showing a slender elm tree with bare branches. Four male students gather in the field surrounding the tree. This elm is a relative of the tree under which William Penn met with Lenape Chief Tamanend in 1682 to pledge a treaty of friendship. The original tree fell in 1810, but cuttings survived.
