In 1831, they returned to New York, in debt. To raise money, Benjamin organized a stage show entitled “Two Cannibals of the Islands of the South Pacific.” The firm J. & J. Harper published their journals as monographs; Benjamin’s was ghostwritten by Samuel Woodworth, and Abby’s was ghost-written by Samuel L.
