- Invitation containing a scene of a mother with her children and a border containing Independent Order of Odd Fellows iconography. Scene shows the mother holding a baby in her lap and pointing to a temple in the background. Two sons read books, one on the ground, and the other near her lap. A daughter kneels in front of her and hands her a flower. Border contains vinery, a bee hive, the all-seeing eye, American eagle, a hand with a heart in the palm (charity) above a three-link chain (friendship, love, and truth) in which an ax rests in one of the rings. - Sheet music cover containing a portrait of a woman attired in a bloomer costume, standing in front of the storefront of music publishers Lee & Walker on the 600 block of Chestnut Street. The lady holds a blue parasol, and wears a corseted pink-colored coat and pale yellow skirt over her white bloomers. A model harp adorns the door of the music store in which a female patron wearing a bloomer costume enters. Also shows the neighboring J. A. Robinson bookstore (162, i.e., 632 Chestnut). Pedestrians, including another woman in bloomers, walk on the sidewalk, past the store, and look in its window. The bloomer costume gained notoriety from an 1851 depiction of women's rights advocate Amelia Bloomer in this style of reform dress comprised of Turkish pantaloons and a skirt., Additional distributors printed on recto: New York, Wm. - Calendar advertisement for the year 1876 offered during the Cenntenial Exhibition. Includes an ornate border containing vignettes, scenes, allegorical figures, and other pictorial elements. On either side of the calendar, female allegorical figures within elements styled as Faberge eggs are depicted. Figures include Peace, Liberty, Mortality, Music, Poetry, and Art. Below the calendar, female allegorical figures and scenes contrast the wilderness of 1776 with an industrial city of 1876. Other elements show cupids, eagles, oval-framed vignette of the liberty bell, and floral ornaments. - Advertisement for the lithographic firm that operated 1853-ca. 1857 containing an allegorical scene. - Circular containing patriotic vignettes above paragraphs of advertising text in addition to bank note specimens for the lithographic studio that began operating at 409 Chestnut in 1858. Central vignette shows the figure of Liberty, one breast exposed, holding a shield and a liberty staff beside a fache and eagle. Surrounding vignettes show sailing vessels, the figure of Justice surrounded by symbols of patriotism and trade, and an allegorical scene with three women posed around an anchor with one, seated, and clinging to the legs of another who stands in a forceful stance. Specimens include female figures and the Traubel imprint. Figures depicted as a romanticized peasant woman, the figure of Justice, and a Native American princess, possibly Columbia. Businesses represented include Freed, Ward, & Freed, Commission Merchants, No. 811 Market Street and Bank of the Northern Liberties. - Membership certificate for the patriotic nativist women's society established in New York in 1845 as an auxilliary to the Order of United Americans. Contains a vignette portrait of Martha Washington flanked by the allegorical figures of Liberty and Justice perched in a cluster of clouds. Below on each side, columns entwined with the American flag and adorned with the American eagle and shield rest on pedestals decorated with horns of cornucopia. Between the columns, a "United Daughter" leads a little girl to another "United Daughter" who welcomes them into a temple adorned with garlands of flowers. The society weakened by the collapse of the nativist political movement remained active until circa 1861., Not in Wainwright., Copyrighted by Wm. - Membership certificate containing a biblical scene in an oval frame embellished with filigree. Depicts the New Testament passage John 9:6 under the verse "For the Lord God Giveth them light. Rev. XXII. 5.V." Shows Jesus laying his hands upon a blind man in a lush setting. A village is visible in the distant background. Predominately contains farm images that show farmers reaping, plowing, and threshing fields, transporting a truck of hay near the coastline, scraping feathers from a goose on a table as a locomotive travels past in the distant background, and a woman milking a cow in the field. Industrial images include women working at sewing machines and operating mechanical looms; a printer at a press; a mill; and a hull of a ship under construction.
