- Album of photographs predominantly showing the grounds of the Philadelphia Zoo in Fairmount Park, in West Philadelphia. Contains views of the Victorian-style gatehouse after the designs of Frank Furness; "The Dying Lioness" statue after the design of Wilhelm Wolff casted in 1875 at the entrance courtyard; lions, tigers, a jaguar and a zebra walking, standing, and grazing in their caged areas; an elephant, camel, lama, mountain goat, and caribou in fenced yards; buffalo grazing on a pasture; and Solitude, the country retreat of John Penn built in 1785 on the grounds of the zoo (miscaptioned as "Wm Penn's House, Fairmount Park"). Images include zoo keepers, visitors, gates, fencing, "Admission Today" signage, and partial views of other buildings on the zoo grounds. Also contains portrait photographs of a man and woman, probably Josie and Emil, and sculler "Andrew C. Craig, Undine Boat Club" on the Schuylkill River. Craig view also includes cityscape and trees along the riverbank in the background. The Philadelphia Zoo, the first in the nation, opened in 1874.

- Description
- Membership certificate containing four vignettes depicting people interacting with animals. Shows a deer carcuss dropped in the street from the back of a speeding game wagon; a dog lying, on guard, next to a baby sleeping in a cradle; a soldier's horse nuzzling its fallen rider; and a woman feeding seed to fowls in a pasture. Scroll, floral, and horticultural elements border the text and vignettes. Also contains the seal of the society, the Pennsylvania coat of arms, and the motto "The Merciful Man Regardeth the Life of his Beast." Society seal shows an angel raising her hand in protest of a wagon driver beating his work house. The PSPCA was organized by Philadelphia businessman Colonel M. Richards Mucklé in 1867 and incorporated in 1868. - Membership certificate containing a biblical scene in an oval frame embellished with filigree. Depicts the New Testament passage John 9:6 under the verse "For the Lord God Giveth them light. Rev. XXII. 5.V." Shows Jesus laying his hands upon a blind man in a lush setting. A village is visible in the distant background. The Pennsylvania Industrial Home for Blind Women, established 1868, provided housing and paid work for blind women, who performed handicrafts including basket weaving, chair caning, and lacemaking., Not in Wainwright., Issued to Mr. & Mrs. John F. - Description
- Volume of compiled prints and drawings by lithographer, etcher, and artist Augustus Kollner primarily depicting landscapes of Fairmount Park and originally published in his "Bits of Nature ...," one of four volumes in his 1878 series of small folio pictures. Also contains views of Philadelphia and Bucks and Montgomery counties. Several of the prints also show park and riverscape; residences and estates; animals, including canal mules, horses, cows, and dogs; park visitors, including an African American family, children, and persons on foot and on horseback; steamboats, rowboats, and other vessels on the Schuylkill River; and rock formations. Other views show wharf workers at lunch and a cliff-side residence at North Twenty-Seventh Street near the park., Mount Pleasant Mansion was built 1761-1765 for Captain John Macpherson after the designs of Thomas Nevil in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pa. Macpherson, a privateer during the Seven Years’ War, purchased the estate with profits from these operations. Free white and Black laborers, indentured servants, and at least four enslaved people of African descent, whose names are unknown, worked on the plantation. In 1779, General Benedict Arnold purchased Mount Pleasant for his wife Peggy Shippen, but they never occupied the house. In 1792, General Jonathan Williams purchased the mansion. The City of Philadelphia purchased the property from the Williams family in 1869. On behalf of the city, the Philadelphia Museum of Art restored the house in 1926., Titles include Thos.
