Description: Billheads containing vignette exterior view of the six-story building adorned in signage of the Philadelphia firm established circa 1868. A pyramid shaped display is visible in the lower floor show window. Also shows heavy street and pedestrian traffic, including a horse-drawn delivery wagon marked "Drugs." One of the prints also contains two "reduced copies of our beautiful large Chromo lithographs Show cards in six colors, handsomely framed in walnut and gilt, given away with the first order of the goods represented." The views show horses, cows, sheep, and pigs gathered in landscape settings near a railroad bridge and farm, and mountains and a lake. Billheads also contain "Terms," including claims policies and the honoring of retails prices, and a list of "Some of Our Other Specialties.", Engravers include Smith Bros., P.2011.46.10 completed in manuscript to C.N. Phillips on June 1887 for "1/2 doz. Barker's H.C. & P. Powder" and "1/4 Doz. Barker's N & B. liniment" for $1.13. Also stamped "On Sale" and inscribed "Rec'd check June 27-88.", P.2011.46.11 completed in manuscript to J. H. Griffin on February 1, 1887 for several items, including "1 doz. Assafoetida 5d size, "1 Doz. White Castile soap," and "1/2 Doz. Beans Hair Oil sml" for $23.21. Manuscript note on recto: To Port Matilda via Tyrone. Description: Eccentrically-arranged scrapbook predominantly containing newspaper clippings, patent medicine almanac advertisements, and comic valentines. Also contains scraps, trade cards, and labels. Clippings, many published in the sensational periodicals “National Police Gazette” and “Days' Doings” primarily depict illustrations of murders and violence, crimes and punishments, human curiosities, animal attacks, human peril, women in distress, evocative theatrical performances, acts of daring, cross dressing and comic scenes in silhouette.

Clippings, many published in the sensational periodicals “National Police Gazette” and “Days’ Doings” primarily depict illustrations of murders and violence, crimes and punishments, human curiosities, animal attacks, human peril, women in distress, gender non-conforming people, evocative theatrical performances, acts of daring, and comic scenes in silhouette. Illustrations include H. P. Peer's 1879 jump from the Niagara Falls bridge and a fight between the elephant "Bolivar" and a camel in Van Amburgh's menagerie. Patent medicine advertisements primarily promote the products of Barker’s Horse, Cattle, and Poultry Powder; C. I. Hood’s Sarsaparilla; Dr. Morse’s Indian Root Pill; and E. S. Well's Rough on Rats. Valentines satirize various professions and gender and ethnic stereotypes, including a cook, music teacher, machinist, hatter, seamstress, “French nurse –(from Ireland),” “novel reader,” “prudish young woman,” and “an old bore.”, Also contains some sentimental and genre imagery, including mothers and children, children playing, and pets; landscape and cityscape illustrations; racist caricatures of African Americans; Tobin trade cards depicting comical views of baseball players (p. 21); an advertisement for The Electric Era/ German Electric Belt Agency (Brooklyn, N.Y.); Dalziel Brother illustrations of scenes from popular Charles Dickens novels like “Nicholas Nickleby”; chromoxylograph illustration from Aunt Matilda series “The Little Deserter” (McLoughlin Bros., ca. 1869); illustrated children's book covers; and a finely-designed chromolithographic advertisement depicting allegorical figures, flowers, and produce to promote gardens (Lowell, Mass.)., Title supplied by cataloger., Small number of pages contain hand-coloring., Also originally included tucked-in partial editions of N.Y. newspapers issued in 1890. Description: Collection of stationery, primarily illustrated and typographical letterheads, billheads, and form letters, of pharmaceutical firms and related businesses and institutions in the United States (predominantly New York City, New York, Philadelphia, and Pennsylvania) issued between circa 1840 and 1935. Subjects include invoices and receipts, shipping arrangements and fees, product orders, payments and payment disputes. Firms, businesses, and institutions well represented include James S. Aspinwall; William P. Blanding; L. N. Brunswig; Caswell, Massey & Co.; C.J. Lincoln Co.; College of Pharmacy of the City of New York; Geo. C. Goodwin & Co.; Hall & Ruckel; Dr. William A.
