Pro-Union designs advance the player and anti-secession designs retard the player. Vignettes depict portraits of prominent war figures; views of forts, soldiers, and preparations for battle; Union and Confederate flags; allegorical figures; and satiric and racist depictions of Confederates. Includes President Abraham Lincoln; Confederate President Jefferson Davis, Gen. Winfield Scott, Maj-Gen. George B. McClellan, Comm. S.F. Dupont, Confederate Gen. Beauregard; bombardment of Fort Sumter; Philadelphia Navy Yard; liberty; Columbia; and Confederate soldiers on retreat; riding a enslaved African American man, and protected by bales of cotton. Includes funeralia in memory of Elmer Ellsworth; several card portraits engraved by Stencrel/Stenzel? and published by L. Prang & Co. and Wm S. & A. Martien; portrait prints inscribed on the verso, "Dinner of the General Wm. B. Meade Post"; and a print and a photograph portrait with amateur ink and goauche hand-coloring. Carte de visite caricatures include Bombastes Furioso; The Copperhead; Crossing the Rocky Mountain; How to Make a Brigadier; The Napoleon of the 69th; and A Public Nuisance. Also contains a carte de visite portrait of the injured Col. Robert Nugent of the 69th N.Y.
