Lantern slide showing the interior of the Gothic-style Cathedral-Basilica of Notre-Dame de Quebec decorated for the Cardinal's installation. The view shows the choir-area richly adorned with statuary, banners, and paintings on the ceiling. Taschereau was conferred on July 21, 1886 as the first Candian Cardinal. The Cathedral-Basilica of Notre-Dame de Quebec was first constructed in 1647. A fire during the siege of Quebec in 1759 destroyed the building, but it was rebuilt in 1743. Jean Baillairge and his son designed the interior 1786-1822. A second fire in 1922 destroyed the interior again, and the cathedral was restored by Maxime Roisin and Raoul Chenevert.
