The United States Military Academy, also known as West Point, was originally a fort first occupied by American forces in 1778. The school was established by President Thomas Jefferson in 1802. Tadeusz Kosciuszko was a Polish general who spent two years from 1778 to 1780 at West Point strengthening the fortifications.
