- Glass negative showing a group of women gathered on the Mount Desert Island dock, including Anna P. Sharpless, Anna H. Goodwin, and Marriott Morris' sister Elizabeth Canby Morris, and possibly including Sallie Carter. The five women feign sadness by dabbing their eyes with handkerchiefs and resting dejected faces in their hands. They wear long dresses and hats. Mount Desert Island, the largest island off the coast of Maine, was popularized in the mid-19th century by Hudson River School painters as a nature retreat. The man looks outward while the women rest their heads on each other's shoulders. The man wears a three-piece suit while the women wear dark high-necked dresses. There are vines growing up a lattice on the left.
