Maung Shaw Loo (1839-1929) was born in Burma (Myanmar) and traveled to the United States in 1858. He attended the University of Lewisburg (later renamed Bucknell University) in Pennsylvania, graduating in 1864. He earned a medical degree from Cleveland Medical College in 1867, becoming the first Western-trained Burmese physician.
