A man sits on the beach in the lower left corner of the frame. The Malta was originally built as the steamer Queen of the South in 1852, then renamed Malta and converted to a sailing ship in 1871. Enroute from Antwerp to New York with empty petroleum barrels, the Malta ran aground during a gale on November 24, 1885.
