- Landscape view showing the first Philadelphia, Germantown and Norristown Railroad (later Philadelphia & Reading Railroad) bridge completed in 1833 over the Wissahickon near a waterfall. A train comprised of an engine, two crowded passenger coaches, i.e., trucks, and a freight car cross the Town lattice truss bridge. The neighboring Robeson's Mill is visible in the right foreground. Cows graze near the creek on which a group of ducks swim. Bridge razed in 1844. - Diploma depicting an exterior view of the institute building and grounds from the Delaware River. Students stroll on the lawn. A passenger train of the Philadelphia, Germantown, and Norrristown (later Philadelphia & Reading) Railroad passes in the foreground and a boat is moored on the riverbank. The institute was established in 1845. View depicts the enlarged building following a major renovation and enlargement 1852-1855., Not in Wainwright., Issued to Ella J. Snodgrass on August 7, 1868. Signed by J. Grier Ralston; Mary L. Ralston; Lizzie J. Greir; Amelia G. Halsey; Agnes C. Ralston; L.M. Schneidre; Thos. O'Neill; Sarah E. Broughton; Anna L. Ralston; and O.P. - Description
- View showing a primitive steam engine locomotive pulling stagecoach-like railroad cars past the "Philadelphia Germantown & Norristown Railway Depot" at the southwest corner of Ninth and Green streets. A driver attired in a top-hat stands and operates the engine from a chariot like platform attached to the locomotive built by Matthias Baldwin. Several passengers occupy the lead coach and partially visible second one. Conductors sit in the cabs of the cars. The Philadelphia Germantown & Norristown Railway, incorporated in 1831, began service to Germantown in 1832 and to Norristown in 1834.
