The company was formed In 1900 when the JP Morgan & Company undertook a consolidation of the bridge construction industry in the United States. This merger of 27 companies commanded 90 percent of the bridge building market in the U.S. Eventually, the American Bridge Company became a subsidiary of the U.S. Steel Corporation.
