- Description
- Landscape view showing railroad tracks near the Susquehanna River. Incorporated as the New York and Erie Railroad in 1832, the railroad was reorganized as the Erie Railway in 1861. The Starucca Viaduct in Lanesboro, Pa., constructed by the railroad in 1848 after the designs of engineers James P. Kirkwood and Julius W. Adams, is visible in the distant background. - View of steam-powered locomotive pulling cars around curved elevated track, sometimes called Suicide or Angels' Curve, located at 110th and 8th Avenues on New York City's 9th Avenue line. Two standing figures and a wagon with two passengers are at street level. Also shows street and pedestrian traffic, including strolling couples, a train, and and horse-drawn coaches, carriages, carts and an omnibus. Menu organized as beverages (coffee, chocolate, and green and black tea); "Bread"; "Broiled"; "Fried"; "Stewed"; "Fish"; "Eggs"; "Cold"; and "Potatoes." Menu also includes hours of service for meals; notice of "Milk from Charles E. Leland's Valley Farm"; and the disclaimer "Dishes Ordered not on the Bill of Fare charged extra. All Meals, Lunches, Dessert or Fruit sent to Rooms, will be charged extra.
