- Incomplete collection of the series, published by John Moran between 1862 and 1868, of scenic views along the Catawissa Railroad, including views in Lycoming, Carbon, and Schuylkill County. Two unlabeled views titled "Bridge over the Susquehanna at Williamsport" and "Tunnel at Summit Station" included as part of the series. Incorporated in 1831 and opened in 1854, the passenger and commercial railroad traveled through the mountains near Blue Ridge connecting Port Clinton and Williamsport, Pennsylvania., Views predominately depict Catawissa Island, a retreat on the Susquehanna River below the town of Catawissa. Views include scenes near a farm and the river. Series also contains views of Lycoming Creek; McCauley Mountain and Railroad; Pine Swamp at Ringtown; base of Summit Hill, Quakake Railroad; and head waters of the Schuylkill River, Summit Station. Many of the views contain posed male figures, including possibly John Moran. The railroad (incorporated in 1846) traveled from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh through the mountain passage known as the "Horse Shoe Curve," completed in 1854. - Advertisement with much street activity showing the manufactory and warerooms operated 1856-1878 by Hess at 1434 Coates Street. At the "Penn Steam Marble Mantel Manufactory," a horse-drawn dray hauling a slab of marble marked "Eli Hess" enters the fenced yard lined with stones. Workers using upright sawing machines cuts slabs of marble within the workshop of the factory that is adorned with statuary on its roof. Patrons enter the adjacent three-story warerooms. Evergreen trees protected by iron-work fencing are visible near the entrance. Statuary in recesses, window shades marked with the business name, and a figure of William Penn mounted on the roof adorn the building. - Advertisement for the shipping company established by John Dougherty as Reliance Transportation Company circa 1835. Company operated on the Allegheny Portage Railroad, a system of inclined planes opened in 1834 that transported canal boats, box cars, and carriages by horse and steam engine to connect the east and west branches of the Pennsylvania Main Line canal. Contains two views of canal boats on trucks being transported on the railroad by locomotive. Upper image depicts a bird's eye view of a locomotive that is hauling boat sections approaching an incline to the canal. A long canal boat traverses the waterway. In the background, a farm and farmland are visible on the numerous hillsides. Engel & Wolf purchased Fountain Green in 1849 to dig lager beer vaults to ferment and age the beer brewed at Dillwyn Street.
