- View of the fountain in winter. Covered in ice, the three statues in the fountain spurt water in background. Architect Wilson Eyre, Jr. and sculptor Alexander Stirling Calder collaborated to create the fountain monument built at the bequest of Maria Elizabeth Swann, in memory of her late husband, Wilson Cary Swann, M.D. The three sculpted figures represent the three rivers around Philadelphia: the Indian symbolizes the Delaware River, the young woman depicts the Wissahickon, and the mature woman, the Schuylkill River., Photographer's manuscript note on verso: Fountain. Park Boulevard. Winter. Ice pack about 12 ft high. It has been from 15 to 18 ft high. This fountain is run on a circulating system. The same water being used over and over. A series of 3 electric motors in an underground room near the fountain do the pumping. Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul in background. Outline of City Hall to the right.
