- Illustrated share certificate for investment in the recreational institute incorporated in 1859 that was administered by J.W. Payne, with a facility built in 1869 at 219 South Broad Street. - Advertisement showing an exterior view of the New Excursion House, opened in 1869, and beachfront in Atlantic City, N.J. Shows guests, sitting, standing, and looking out from the three-story resort hotel with a watch tower and covered porches. In front and near the hotel, men and women walk on the grounds, a man rides on a horse, and several horse-drawn carriages travel. In the left, a Camden and Atlantic Railroad Co. train stops at the hotel. In the foreground, waves crash on the shore as bathers wade into the water using two safety lines mounted between masts on the beach and in the ocean. Although the bathing is perfectly safe at this point, yet, to insure confidence, Street’s Safety Apparatus has been erected on the grounds. Excursion trains run directly to the house as represented.
